How to avoid losing breasts when working out?

Macbeth8 · 05/08/2022 11:13

I've recently been working out. Not extreme or anything. I have always been 'fit'as in exercising be it long walks or just HIIT workouts here and there.
However, recently had much more time if you like to use to work out. I have only been doing 2 pilates classes a week, few sessions of dumbell lifting and walking the dog most evenings. So again, nothing major but in the past few weeks breasts have completely reduced I would say at least a cup size! Never had this before.
I am/was a size D and all my bras are no horribly loose on me which is why I wonder if there is any way to avoid this?! I see other women at the gym with slim waists and fairly sized boobs.

I am not assed about having big boobs or whatever. I just happenrd to spend alot on my bras loads from victorias secret or bijoux. They cost a fortune..I really do not want to be replacing bras at this time in general where times are tough hence why I am wondering if they will just ping back if I reduce my workouts?! Not sure what to do! Any advice appreciated.

Unfortunately when losing body fat we can't control where it goes from. My boobs are the first place that my body changed when I lose/gain weight.

giffyg · 05/08/2022 11:28

i think it's luck of the draw. my bum loses it first, boobs last.

Paintsplat · 05/08/2022 11:32

The biggest impact on cup size will be how much bodyfat you have, and where you genetically store fat. The majority of women will lose weight from the bust if they lose weight overall. There's not much you can do about it unless you eat more/workout less to put the weight back on. You can't pick where you lose or store fat from, that's why we're all different shapes!

Don't leave them unattended in the locker room.

That is so frustrating, but there really isn’t anything you can do physically.
Stupid idea I’m sure… but literally all I can think of - can you get bras altered?? Maybe a good seamstress can help you if you really don’t your nice bras to go to waste?

KangarooKenny · 05/08/2022 11:39

Boobs are made up of a lot of fat, so it’s inevitable.

🤣🤣

This was my first thought too!

Don't leave them unattended in the locker room.

😂

I was very intrigued by the title - I initially thought maybe the OP’s boobs kept popping out of her bra whilst start jumping.

Yup, me too.

But I really don’t mind - I’ve always been pretty flat-chested and it makes exercise easier, really. And gives me far more choice about what and how I can wear dresses - I have several that are better without a bra, as I think underwear showing is a bit naff.

Lilithslove · 05/08/2022 11:58

I don't think you can control where your body wants to lose fat. The only thing you can do is increase your calories so you stop losing fat and focus on muscle building.

Antarcticant · 05/08/2022 12:03

What exercises are you doing? I would LOVE to reduce the size of mine but nothing makes any difference.

woodhill · 05/08/2022 12:16

Wish this would happen to my boobs

giffyg · 05/08/2022 12:18

I wanted to lose a bit of bust for my wedding & I only did it by getting quite thin in general, I took up running/jogging. It did work

QueenOfWeeds · 05/08/2022 12:20

I lost a lot of weight a while ago and asked a female PT how I could stop my boobs vanishing. She gave me a pitying look and said “there is a reason most fitness models have boob jobs.”

I found it harder to cope with the change in shape than the change in size. Previously I knew that a balcony bra would always work, but the way my boobs changed shape means that they just don’t sit properly anymore. Maybe try some different styles, OP?

AuntieMarys · 05/08/2022 12:28

I'd love to lose mine. They're getting bigger!

Whataretheodds · 05/08/2022 12:28

I'd love to know - i came on to tell you that running and hiit did for mine, but I'd hve hoped that what you're doing would be ok. Have you reduced your calorie intake quite drastically?
As others have said fat loss has to come from somewhere.

Can you make sure you work your pecs (won't change the cup but will build the muscle that sits behind your boobs) and your core to increase definition between boobs and the rest of your trunk?

Whataretheodds · 05/08/2022 12:29

Ps don't underestimate the number of surgically enhanced bosoms there will be at the gym.

They seem to get bigger after menopause

I was flat chested when I got married in my 20s and mum asked me where my boobs had gone😀

Macbeth8 · 05/08/2022 12:36

Thank you for all replies
I do Pilates which is low impact and what I consider not strenuous at all..I only do it because the classes are a suitable time for me. Otherwise, its just some dumbell work outs (10kg) and theyre usually quite quick. Actually, just dawning on me that maybe its the lifting thats decreased them as I was doing much more "strenuous" high impacts beforehand such as Joe Wickes HIIT workouts and breasts stayed the same.
Interesting, so maybe lifting heavy reduces breasts. It is quite sad. I hate the way they sit in my bras like deflated balloons 😭😭

Chicken fillets. Mine deflated after kids. Chicken fillets help my bras to still fit and give me the oomph back.

SirenSays · 05/08/2022 12:55

It matters what workouts you do. If you workout your pectoral muscles you can lose cupsizes. I can't do pushups, chin ups etc without losing volume.
