Is this selfish behaviour? (Playground)

Met a parent and child at a playground so our kids could play together. At some point the parent and child disappears, can’t see them anywhere. About 5-10 minutes later I see them outside the playground and the kid has had a ride in a digger (that tradesmen kindly allowed). Parent and child then come back declaring how fun it was and how much they love diggers.

AIBU to think this is quite selfish?

No?

Thepossibility · 05/08/2022 03:38

I mean I don't see how it's selfish. So YABU.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 05/08/2022 03:39

It sucks you missed out but I bet they grabbed the opportunity as it probably won’t happen again

Plmoknijb123 · 05/08/2022 03:40

Wouldn’t you tell someone if you were going to disappear for some time? Or say ‘hey we’re going to ask if we can ride that digger, want to come?’

Just sees odd to me, to quickly grab something for yourself and forget another child for a moment

Well it needs context.

Did they pop to the loo, stop to look at the digger and the guy offer?
Did they wait for you to look away, run straight to the digger and ask for a go?

Plmoknijb123 · 05/08/2022 03:47

They left (eg: I turn around and they’re gone) and specifically asked for a ride

Not selfish, no. Also depends on the age of the kid, eg did they take a 2yo over to look at diggers because they like them and it went from there? I don’t think they ‘grabbed it for themselves’ it’s just happened? Go and ask yourself if you’re so bothered.

Pollydonia · 05/08/2022 03:50

Really, in this world of health and safety a random man on a digger offers a child a ride ?

Plmoknijb123 · 05/08/2022 03:54

Yes it happened, don’t know about health and safety but it did happen.

No, I don't think you're being unreasonable. You had a play date planned and they just bounce on you? No warning? No "Hey, gonna take Mikey to the digger for a moment, wanna come?" kind of deal? I find that rude because maybe your child would have loved to see the digger too. Is this the 1st time you went out with this parent? I don't play that nonsense... that would have the 1st and last time I spend time with someone who would just ghost me and my Son like that...

Plmoknijb123 · 05/08/2022 04:04

@DulceMama1977 yes first time. That’s exactly what I thought, quite odd behaviour. And will be the last time for us 😂
