To wonder what’s the benefit?

How is it logical that landlord agreed to a contract with a 6 month fixed term and 1 month periodic element yet not that’s finished they’re refusing to allow us to roll onto the periodic element?

Ive read shelter and they can do it but they will be giving us notice because I’m absolutely not going to sign another 6 months when we have a perfectly good contract in place.

Whats more funny: the agent is actually explicitly saying the landlord refuses categorically to accept periodic contracts EVENTHOUGH its U.K. the contract we both signed.

Whilst here we’ve notified them of 3 defects that other tenants have ignored which would have been costly long term. Why would they want us out? What’s the benefit? AIBU to think there is no benefit booting out good tenants.

In reality you can refuse to sign for a new 6 month fixed term and you don't have to leave at the end of the current fixed term; you can wait until the landlord follows the correct legal process to end your tenancy (a section 21 eviction) which will take several months. You said you've read the Shelter website - did you look at these pages:

england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/private_renting/options_when_your_fixed_term_tenancy_ends
