Irregular fetal heartbeat

Hi everyone,

Posting here for traffic as I am hoping for some shared experiences or a heads up on "what to expect".

I am currently 28wks pregnant with first baby. I am consultant led antenatal care due to hypothyroidism. At a routine scan today the consultant detected an irregularity in baby's heartbeat, which sounded like a missed beat, and sent me to the fetal assessment unit where they did a heart trace on baby for about 1hr.

Heart trace showed that rather than a missed beat it was slowing down intermittently and as a result I have been referred to fetal-cardiology. They have said it's reassuring that baby's weight, growth, movement, surrounding fluid and placenta are ideal and this issue may be that the heart is still in the early stages of development - thus "immature". They have also said that they cannot rule out a heart defect and may not be able to until baby is here and is examined by a paediatrician.

I haven't worried throughout my whole pregnancy but this has hit me like a train. Can anyone share any experience with this and how things turned out?

Many many thanks.

Hi there,

I know this post was off a while ago but I am in the exact same situation. Wondering if everything turned out okay for your little baba? Thanks

Hi @Tbeeka
Sorry I've just seen this. Thankfully everything turned out perfect with my baba, no issues at all.
All of the professionals I was in contact with after this scan reassured me that this can be extremely common at that early stage and often "fixes" itself as fetal development continues.

Try not to worry -hugs-
