Stolen jewellery

Posting here for traffic.

my mum’s just called me to let me know that she’s been broken into, and all her jewellery gone (wedding ring, etc). I’m so angry and upset for her. She lives by herself after my dad died and I know this will knock her so much. Thank god she wasn’t in the house when it happened.

can anyone let me know where are the best places online to keep an eye out for attempts to sell the jewellery on? The breakin is in Scotland - Facebook marketplace? Gumtree? EBay? Where else? I know it’s a long shot but I need to try to help in some way.

thanks so much in advance.

So sorry to hear this it must be awful.

If you have any pictures check local pawn shops as well.

purplecorkheart · 04/08/2022 14:45

I would be looking at Pawn Brokers inthe area where she lives and nearby towns first.

bunnypenny · 04/08/2022 14:50

Thanks both. I live in London - I’ll need to give the pawn brokers a call. Do you think they’d entertain it? I don’t want to annoy them but I do want them to keep an eye out!

Was her jewellery separately insured? If so there will be descriptions and possibly photos too. These will help identify her items.

Yes the jewelry will be sold but was it really a break in? Anything else stolen? Signs of forced entry? Stealing jewelry is usually someone you know.

bunnypenny · 04/08/2022 15:07

@fallfallfall there was forced entry to the house.

@WeAreTheHeroes no sadly not, although it should have been.

Hopefully you have involved Police Scotland and asked them to circulate descriptions to Pawn Shops etc

bunnypenny · 04/08/2022 15:17

@StoneofDestiny My brother is in the police and is with her now! He’s in a different division in a different city though and left work to go to her when she called him to let him know - the local police she called when she discovered the break-in are yet to turn up. I’m just trying to work out what I can do as I know the police are massively overstretched and will probably do not a lot to help (as my brother has admitted).

Our road had a series of burglaries over a three week period, police not interested insurance tried to pull a fast one. None of us ever recovered a single item. Police did fingerprint etc

ivykaty44 · 04/08/2022 15:23

send photographs of the items to those places that take gold for cash online

sorry this has happened, its so unfair and wrong for people to take things that don't belong to them
