Help me decide

OH and I have been together for a long time now, trans Atlantic (I'm US he's UK)

We are taking the next step to get married and I will join him in the UK as he has children from a previous relationship (their mom doesn't let them visit the states either)

Our decision is this,

Do we marry now in the states (he is here on vacation), the visa takes approx 6 months so I will stay here and continue to work etc then move over once visa in hand. I won't be able to travel to see him during this time, he won't be able to see me either as he is out of annual leave.

Or do I go over now for 6 months to give us some much needed living together experience, this means leaving my job and home (I can get another job pretty quick to be honest, and I have family I can stay with if needed), then get married in February and I'll stay with family until the visa is processed.

Or do I go over now for a few months, keep my home by paying rent in advance, then get married in December and stay in the states until the visa is processed.

We want time living together before we get married, I can only stay in the UK for 6 months at a time, once the visa is processed I can't enter the UK til it's complete.

AIBU to suggest coming over now? Even if it makes more sense not to?

I cannot comprehend marrying someone I'd never lived with. It effectively means your relationship has never been tested in the 'real world'. But IMO the most important thing here is that his children have the opportunity to adjust to your presence in their home. Their DF getting married is a huge event in their lives, they deserve some time to process that.

The second option. Why wait.
