Freaking out, drank spoiled milk?

So bare with me, I have severe Emetophobia and I’m starting to freak out a little…

Opened a carton of milk around 4 days ago, it’s lactose free so it lasts a bit longer than usual milk. Used it in my coffee, I would say a good glug or so. Drank about half of my cup and realised there was all curdled bits of milk in it!

Tipped the rest of the carton down the sink - didn’t try any just incase - but there was no lumps or anything like that coming out.

What is the likelihood that I have poisoned myself and now will have D or V or both (!)?!

The only way you'll experience any V is if you work yourself up into a state about it.

Gone off milk tastes a bit ick but it's unlikely to give you food poisoning.

Very unlikely I'd say, I've done similar more than once and never vomited or had D&V. If it was so badly off it was going to make you ill you'd have smelt it the instant you opened the carton, slightly spoilt milk is probably not ideal to drink every day and not particularly nice but not totally poisonous, it's just on its way to becoming cheese lol. With the plant based/processed milks (not sure if that's what it was?) they can often split also before they go actively bad so that's what the curdling may have been?

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 03/08/2022 13:15

it won't do you any harm at all.

Curdled milk is basically just yoghurt, you'll be fine! Especially if it didn't taste really obviously sour, it was just starting to go on the turn.

RaininSummer · 03/08/2022 13:16

You will be fine unless you work yourself up to a frazzle. Several times I have drunk a cup like that and not realized til the bottom of the cup. Never been ill.

KrisAkabusi · 03/08/2022 13:20

There is zero chance of it causing you to vomit or get diarrhea. There is a much greater chance of you worrying about it and making yourself dick. You have done zero harm to yourself. You know what another name for curdled milk is? Yoghurt. You'll be fine!

WonderingWanda · 03/08/2022 13:35

You'll be fine!

scrivette · 03/08/2022 13:40

It will be fine. I have done this a few times before. The milk hasn't been curdled when I drank it cold but then curdles in the tea.

Flockameanie · 03/08/2022 13:42

I find non-milk milk (oat milk in particular) often curdles when heated up or added to hot drinks. So it was probably fine and not off if you only opened it 4 days ago.
