Passport Replacement

Backtobacknow · 03/08/2022 08:47

Posting for traffic and everyone's knowledge.

My passport got water damaged, so I sent it for replacement, it was acknowledged as received on 14th July, since then nothing has happened.

I am travelling on 5th September, so starting to panic a little, can I make an emergency appointment now? I of course have sent my old passport to them.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes, you can make an emergency appointment and cancel the existing one.

You're supposed to allow 10 weeks just now. Not sure if you can swap to a fast track

Thank you, even if I have sent the old passport to them?

This is too early to worry about! Next week phone them (be prepared for a loooong hold). They will then tell you they will get someone to phone you back; this person will explain what stage your passport is at. Two weeks before you're due to go, phone them again and you should be upgraded to fast track. Much panicking later, your passport arrives just 2 days before you leave!

This is our story and we had the required 10 weeks but it was for new passports!

Just got hold of them on live chat and everything you've said is correct.

Fingers crossed! Thank you.

I applied for my replacement passport 25th April. It finally arrived 2 days ago

I chased it up on the passport advice line. It arrived 4 days afterwards

Couple of friends have had theirs within 2/3 weeks, that's ridiculous timescale!

DH had an appointment for a fast track. I had been waiting for 12 weeks already so popped along with him and spoke to the staff at the door. They were able to check on my passport and print it off that day (as all the checks had been done). The people on the phone were still telling me it was at a different office and there was no point in going to my local passport office! If you can I would visit (I didn't have an appointment for the Liverpool office and arrived after 12pm when the rush had died down). The staff there were fantastic.

I'm thinking about taking a trip to Liverpool office maybe tomorrow (Thursday) we fly Monday and can't get anything from anyone and apparently just have to wait to be contacted by phone? I really want to trust in the system but the longer this is going on the more I'm worried. 18 weeks we have been waiting for this renewal for my son. You really think if I show up I might leave with a passport? Even if the passport office dealing with it is Durham?
