Chest pain/short of breath teen

7 replies

Sorry posting for traffic! but a little concerned about teenage 14yrs

Has had 3 episodes of centre chest pain with shortness of breath and then goes back to feeling normal. Has not been poorly and is well hydrated and fed etc

Once was at home and once was playing football and he had to take a break

I've filled in a GP form so will obviously get it checked but anyone have experience of this with their teen?

Thanks

Could be any number of things which are not heart related (which Im guessing is your fear)

Could be asthma, anemia etc?

Thanks for replying. Yes I'm worried about it being heart related because it happened during exercise ( although today he was very active and was fine)

If it was a heart issue wouldn't that happen every time he exerts himself? Or can it be intermittent?

It could be anxiety as well - what were the other times

Definitely get it checked out though

No reason not to make a gp appointment to rule out congenital heart issues.

Precordial catch syndrome? See link above.
Common in adolescence.

@Quartz2208

One was during exercise, one was when he came out the shower and the other was just when he was watching TV.

I don't think it's anxiety as it doesn't seem linked to anything he's worried about
