You can't complain about the smell of a fire

When you sit in your garden smoking weed every night?

It was my eldests birthday yesterday, so they had a sleepover with cousins on Friday night. We used our firepit and had a small, contained fire for max of two hours, so the kids could roast marshmallows.

No one was loud, the fire wasn't out of control and smoke was minimal. We sent the kids in to bed by 10.30 and me and the husband sat out for a while longer, having a chat, quietly.

NN appeared in their garden, ranting and raving to their housemate who had just got home, that they couldn't sit outside "enjoying the garden" as we were having a bonfire. That it was a "piss take" and they felt like "coming round to yell" at us. They obviously didn't realise we were in the garden still as my husband said loudly "and we don't like when you smoke weed in your garden every night" and they ran inside and slammed the door.

So, were we being unreasonable having a fire, or are they for complaining?
