Mystery beeping sou d

There has been for several weeks now a mystery beeping sounds coming from a neighbours house / garden.

Its about every two minutes, and it two tone.

I’ve wondered if it could be a run down battery? The sound a washing machine makes to let you know it’s done? A trapped robot mower?

It’s not all the time - but often for several hours a day.

We are in a terrace so there are many properties it could come from.

Would I be unreasonable to stick a note through everyone’s door to try and track it down? It’s annoying but I also don’t want to
piss people off.

Are any of the neighbouring houses empty? It could be a smoke detector low battery alert or similar, but in an empty house - in which case, notes through the door won't solve the problem.

Could be a carbon monoxide monitor.

Very annoying 😭

Could be a carbon monoxide monitor.

Very annoying 😭

Or very scary - if it's been going repeatedly in someone's house for a while.

Might be animal repellent thingy

VerifiedBot2351 · 31/07/2022 15:46

If it’s a co2 monitor going off you need to find out where it’s coming from.

pastabest · 31/07/2022 15:46

Smoke alarms. Either running out of battery or prompting to test the battery.

37anddone · 31/07/2022 15:47

@RandomMess

I had thought that - but then, it would go all the time surely, not just for a few hours then stop?

Thats why I was thinking it could be an appliance of some sort. It does eventually stop.

No way of working out where it’s coming from however.

Could be a smoke alarm low battery, and you're only hearing it when the windows in that property are open or if the wind is blowing in a particular direction.

We recently visited my MIL and her smoke alarm low battery had been going off for weeks but she couldn't hear it because she's deaf.

Had this when my neighbour moved and the house next door was empty for a while. Thought it might be the oven timer or something like that. It would start every morning but was low level and I couldn’t track down do assumed it was coming from next door….
Turned out to be ds’s kiddies clock which had an alarm but the battery was run down on the alarm so it was weakly going off for an hour or so each day
My advice is be sure to check it definitely isn’t coming from your place before asking the neighbours!

Musti · 31/07/2022 15:53

Can you walk around to find out where it is coming from? And post it on the Facebook neighbourhood group? I’m sure you’re not the only one hearing it so may be able to find out through process of elimination. Are there any empty properties?

Berthatydfil · 31/07/2022 15:56

My washing machine makes an annoying beep beep sound when it gets to the end of its cycle. Could your neighbours be putting on a wash and going out /to work ?

gillybean2 · 31/07/2022 15:58

@Berthatydfil mine did that too but I googled and found how to turn it off. No more early morning wake up calls from the machine.

bare · 31/07/2022 16:08

My freezer in the garage does this when it malfunctions

CounsellorTroi · 31/07/2022 16:09

Could it be a landline phone off the hook?

Threelittlelambs · 31/07/2022 16:11

You need to get teenagers on side here! Their hearing is better than most. Neighbors have a cat scarer thingy that I can’t hear and it activates when people walk past.
