To think walking poles are best thing ever

So I have shit ankles. One was probably broken five years ago (black ice, came off bike, pretended it was sprained but tbh....) Walking over rough ground, slopes etc has been difficult. I got an ankle support for holiday last year. This year I thought I'd try walking poles. WOW! Really helped on the flat and going over rough ground it was a revelation. I felt so much more stable. Back in cottage and even the bad ankle is ok. Plus I was faster.
Really pleased I took the plunge!

I've just started using them - great for hills, mud, rocks. They're making me feel far more confident on rough terrain, I trail run (without poles) but these are a real benefit for walking.

@1idea have you tried different brands of socks? I have 2 pairs which make my feet ache significantly more than other brands.

@QueenOfWeeds no I haven’t, I have tried many different types of trainers and walking shoes. Which ones have you found helped you? Socks have to be cheaper to try than shoes! Thanks for the reply :)

@1idea I have Bridgedale, which were recommended when I bought my boots, and SmartWool, which my friend recommended. I find Smart Wool much comfier over longer walks. I reckon it’s best to buy a few different brands and try them out over similar walks.
