Facebook marketplace - offers on day 1

LimboLass · 30/07/2022 10:56

Why would somebody offer if an item has been up for less than 24 hours? I listed a good condition item at a price marginally under what others are for sale at and somebody offered 75% the asking.

YABU - People might take offers straight away
YANBU - Why would anybody take an offer after 12 hours?

People probably haven’t noticed when it was listed and think it’s worth a punt to make an offer.

Because Facebook Marketplace is full of lunatics and time wasters. That's my experience anyway.

Hunderland · 30/07/2022 11:10

Depends how quickly you want to get rid 🤷

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 30/07/2022 11:25

I never get why people are offended by offers. It’s not a big deal, either negotiate or just say no/ ignore. Some people price expecting it, others don’t.

I encountered this on eBay. Guy listed an item with buy it now or make a best offer. I made an offer and he absolutely went off on one about how they were already cheap for the brand etc, a big rant. I had no idea of the brand, just saw a pretty duvet accepting offers. Others times people accept offers of around 70-80% instantly, so have obviously allowed for it- and there’s no way of telling unless you ask.

Totally odd to get uptight about a non-binding low effort question.

Can nobody ask a question these days without being considered uptight or offended?

Bit odd since you seem to be the one bothers about offers!

There are plenty of people who will chance it and make an offer. They don't care when the item was put for sale, they just want to know if you will take a lower price.

BigDayToday · 30/07/2022 11:59

I use eBay or Vinted a lot so usually price a bit over what I'd be happy to accept. Whether on not I'll take an early offer depends on the item and my mood so it's always worth asking! Having said that, I'm never brave enough to make really cheeky offers myself!

EXACTLY!

Some people have the opinion "If you don't ask, you don't get". The worst you're going to say is no, so they want to get in quick with an offer before someone else does.

YABU.

Nothing wrong at all with making an offer right away. You don't need to accept it.
