Fed up of the cropped clothes

I’m so bored and fed Up of this stupid trend of cropped clothes. Cropped sweatshirts, T-shirts etc.

Im 39. I have a tummy after kids and 32G boobs. One of my fave shops, Sweaty Betty, seems obsessed with this crop trend. It makes my look like a beach ball. Not flattering at all.

It doesn’t look good on anyone over 20 to be honest. Surely a shop like Sweaty Betty isn’t for teenagers?! It seems they have lost their way.

I used to love this shop for lovely sweatshirts, hoodies and basic T-shirts.

when is the cropped/short trend going away? Is it just a way to save on fabric costs? Everything seems so short which when you’ve got boobs bigger than a c cup looks so silly.

I'm with you OP, I went into a shop the other day (not aimed at young) and saw lots of nice tops but they were all bloody cropped. Just stop it or Atleast have some nice tops that are long enough to cover my saggy tummy.

I agree! When I was 20 and had a lovely flat stomach it was ok. Now I’m 44 with wobbles at every angle, totally not good!
And my 11yo also agrees “doesn’t feel comfortable” 😤
Im pretty sure there’s a high number of people who require just normal shaped clothes!

It is a way to control costs and maintain margins while not having to increase prices. Lots of sectors do it in recessions. Whether they do or not depends to some extent on their customer consumer profiling and whether they are price inelastic or not.

I don't have a problem buying clothes which cover my stomach. I buy yoga clothes from bamboo clothing just as good as SB but cheaper.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 30/07/2022 11:01

I had an operation last year and now I have a stoma bag. You try finding anything that's long enough to cover the bag. I can't wear it inside trousers/jeans - so I'm stuck wearing tops years old and looking like my mother (I'm 38).

CounsellorTroi · 30/07/2022 11:01

Cropped trousers too. Not good if you have chunky ankles like mine.

JenniferPlantain · 30/07/2022 11:15

Agree. I’m not fat (size 12) but at 44 I look like a soggy potato with legs in cropped tops. It’s hateful!!

Paintsplat · 30/07/2022 11:18

Whilst just having clothes designed for a variety of body shapes would be the ideal, until then cropped items are a godsend for us shorties! For ages the trend was for long tops, which on my height meant everything got stuck on my hips and rode up. Cropped means finally some petite wear!

NotKatherineRyan · 30/07/2022 11:19

Not just the crop tops but these new figure hugging dresses that are all the rage are NOT for me. I keep all my weight in my stomach pouch and these dresses just make me look horrendous. I went clothes shopping the other day and 9 in 10 dresses were the same style. I tried one on and nearly wet myself laughing in the mirror.

Please let us skim over our tummies, I don’t want mine on display or being hugged by ditsy print

I am peri menopausal and sick of the stubborn stomach fat. The clothes that aren't cropped, normally look frumpy. It is so difficult trying to buy and style at 51.

I'm sure I saw a BBC article or an advert recently about a woman who started a clothing brand that designed for stoma bags.

luxxlisbon · 30/07/2022 11:23

I’m short so I love that more things are cropped recently since so many petite sections have been cut. That long cover your bum style top goes to my knees basically and looks grim.

ColdHappyBap · 30/07/2022 11:26

So with you on this. My DD would also agree and she is a youngster. I also really hate all the shapeless dresses at the moment. I should probably be pleased because I am fat and they are very roomy. But the lack of shape makes me look I have zero shape at all and I do actually have a waist. Gets me nostalgic for early 2000s Gok Wan putting a belt on everyone to define your smallest point.

Intothewoodland · 30/07/2022 11:26

I'm 38. I don't mind crop tops as I like high waisted trousers and I think they look nice with them. I don't like figure hugging dresses though! I've had three children and that really shows off everything
