Small bottle of maple syrup in Tesco Express £6.35 ! Son likes it on his porridge, think I'll get honey instead.

Probably not helpful now, but we get ours from Aldi, more than half that price.

Proper maple syrup is expensive, and as their is a shortage, its going to be more so.
It's a long and expensive process to make it. Buy maple flavour syrup if you want cheap

alonglongshot · 29/07/2022 13:03

Or try Lyon's Golden syrup.

Burnt0utMum · 29/07/2022 13:23

Agree you should try Aldi. We get it from there and it's the proper one, not just maple flavour. Tesco Express is expensive in general though.

Glittertwins · 29/07/2022 14:13

If you have Costco membership, their own brand is good and relatively cheaper

portocristo · 29/07/2022 15:49

Thanks all, think a trip to Aldi is on the cards.

Another Aldi vote, it’s very nice

Dixiechickonhols · 29/07/2022 16:22

Lidl do it too. It had £1 off on their app recently.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/07/2022 16:25

I've never bought it so have no idea how much it costs but it doesnt surprise me that an imported product is very expensive in the current climate

portocristo · 29/07/2022 19:18

Maybe need to move to Canada lol

Have you seen what it actually takes to produce a small amount of maple syrup? Google it - it's very interesting.

It's a luxury product, like champagne or oysters.

MomwasCasual · 29/07/2022 19:21

To be fair, proper maple syrup has always been a lot dearer than honey (not Manuka!) or golden syrups

mumda · 29/07/2022 19:58

Buy local honey.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/07/2022 20:00

Maple syrup has always been expensive, I practically fainted in the aisle when I realised this years ago.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 29/07/2022 20:04

Maple syrup is always expensive. My parents used to buy it all the time, but when I moved it out, my response was "yeah, fuck that Grin" and I make do with honey, lol.

womaninatightspot · 29/07/2022 20:05

Maple syrup is very expensive for the proper stuff even in Canada/ Vermont. They can only gather the sap at certain times of the year. Each tree doesn’t produce a lot and then they have to boil it down for hours reducing it to a fraction of original volume.

I wonder if you e previously bought maple flavour stuff or maple syrup cut with corn syrup which is much cheaper.

MoodyTwo · 29/07/2022 20:05

Express stores are 10% more expensive than standard stores, due to 'convenience'

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/07/2022 20:11

Aldi is much cheaper and really nice.
