Calling all mumsnetters who enter addresses, answer phones, have secretarial roles, have lived in such a home with an 0 in the middle or just an excellent grasp of spoken English.

How are we saying this?

Two Oh Nine, Two zero nine or Two Hundred and Nine? Or something else entirely? 🤣

Thankyou speech pedants 🙏

Two oh nine

InFiveMins · 28/07/2022 20:03

Two oh nine

kittythames · 28/07/2022 20:03

If it was my address and I was speaking on the telephone I would say "two zero nine" because it's clearer.

yonce · 28/07/2022 20:03

Two-Zero-Nine

It's not an O it's a 0! It bugs me so much when people say "oh" 😬 But then again I work with numbers for a living so might have overly strong feelings 😂

thecapitalsunited · 28/07/2022 20:03

Two oh nine.

amicissimma · 28/07/2022 20:05

Two oh nine.

I see it as a bit like a name, even though it's numerical.

MbatataOwl · 28/07/2022 20:06

Two zero nine

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/07/2022 20:06

Two oh nine

Cotswoldmama · 28/07/2022 20:12

2 oh 9 I used to live at 1 oh 4 . Ive just realised I say oh for the first 0 of a phone number but then I revert to zero!

steff13 · 28/07/2022 20:14

If I'm giving a delivery person or similar my address or confirming an Appellant's address in a hearing, I would say "two zero nine" because it's more clear and there's less chance for confusion. If I were just saying it in conversation for some reason, I'd say "two oh nine."

Yika · 28/07/2022 20:15

I would say two-oh-nine.

ISeeTheLight · 28/07/2022 20:15

Two oh nine. If on phone potentially two zero nine or two hundred and nine.

We used to live in house number 30A. Was a nightmare on the phone, trying to explain it was 30 A not 38.

Quackpot · 28/07/2022 20:24

Zero. 'oh' is too easily mistaken for 'four'

Frazzled2207 · 28/07/2022 20:24

Two oh nine

Yes! People do say Oh at the beginning of a phone number!

I had to say this address to someone today and they were like what, I was like whattt 🤣 They said zero and then I was like whaatttttttt 🤣

Minds been boggled since.

Two hundred and nine! It isn't rocket science.

imnottoofussed · 28/07/2022 21:25

Always O including in telephone numbers, except one of our work ones where I say oh for the first occurrence and zero for the second occurrence Confused

LemonSwan · 28/07/2022 21:28

I am so glad the majority agree!

Thank you wise mumsnetters 🙏

I won’t keep you any longer from Prince William, Ryanair et al. 🤣

As we were

It's popular to pronounce 0 "oh", but I'm literally minded and I always say "zero".

Hollowgast · 28/07/2022 21:34

I was about to make the same comment!!

Transformatio · 28/07/2022 21:39

Two hundred and nine

possibly two zero nine

never two oh nine

LadyCatStark · 28/07/2022 21:39

2-oh-9 but I’ve never lived on a street with more than 40 houses before so I’ve never really thought about it!

Yep I do too. I revert to zero if another number is a 0, just not the first number. Although I also have a way of saying phone numbers and if someone doesn't follow the same pattern, it throws me off and I have to really think about it 🤦🏻‍♀️
