WWYD food scheme vouchers

Hi

Just a quick scenario. A couple of days ago we had a letter through from the local council giving us some holiday food scheme vouchers for £90 (6 x £15) for our youngest (3). We shouldn't have got them as we don't qualify as we earn over the amount, and we aren't on the appropriate benefits.

I checked with nursery that they hadn't given them in lieu of another child who did need them, and it turns out our local council have issued a number of these vouchers in error. I checked with the council and they didn't want them back and told us to enjoy them.

It doesn't feel right doing that so we've given the codes to nursery to give to some of their struggling families, but a couple of friends have also had the vouchers and kept them. The only other thing I could think of doing was giving them to the food bank.

What would you have done in the situation?

YABU- I would have kept them
YANBU- I would have donated them

No ulterior motive for asking, just felt curious!

If I had enough money to manage without, I'd donate them as you have done - where it will be targeted to people the nursery know for certain will benefit greatly from the assistance.

But if I were on the bones of my arse, as I have been many times before, I'd have used them with no guilt, as the council had confirmed they were still mine to use.

If the council had told me to keep them, I probably would have used them to buy food for a food bank plus a treat or two for us.

Yep... I'm with @PurpleDaisies
Treat your family with something to count your lucky stars with and buy a load of food for the food bank.

Same. The council have told you to keep them so keep them.
