Does anyone else get terrible nausea during their period?

I never used to get it whilst taking the pill, but I don't take any hormonal contraceptives now.
Anyway I woke up at 4am feeling incredibly sick, and it lasted most of the day yesterday, pretty much until I went to bed. Kept me up a lot of the night.
No appetite at all which is unlike me, just ate 1 small sandwich in 12 hours.
Then bad stomach. I took the day off work as felt horrendous.
I wondered if I had a bug but then my period started. Have never had symptoms that badly before but I have heard it can get worse with age.
I had no physical symptoms of it whilst on the pill.
Don't want to put up with that every month, does anyone else have this?

Yes, pretty much every single month.

LittleBirdWeeps · 26/07/2022 08:05

Yes, horrific every month. Worse on days 1 and 2, gone by day 4.

Bigoldmachine · 26/07/2022 08:12

Yep. It’s worse now post-children. Last month was actually sick too . Sympathies. It’s rubbish

stormelf · 26/07/2022 08:14

I never used to but since having my third baby seven months ago I do. It's like morning sickness each month

Siameasy · 26/07/2022 08:14

Day one yes. It’s to do with prostaglandins; side effects include nausea and some people vomit.

InDubiousBattle · 26/07/2022 08:16

Yes, very similar to morning sickness the day before my period starts. It's awful.

Neversaygoodbye · 26/07/2022 08:29

My DD went on the contraceptive pill at 14 for this reason. Every month vomiting and upset stomach on days 1 and 2, it was very debilitating and upsetting. My research suggested it's an overproduction of prostaglandin which can cause more contractions leading to stringer cramps, vomiting and upset tummy.

Oh dear :( seems like a lot of us are suffering. I'm reluctant to go back on the pill as it affected me in other ways

Yes! Currently experiencing this right now and was wondering last night if I was getting a bug and then realised my period is due in a day or so. Mine seems to be worse since I started Prozac so I don't know if that's linked or if it would have happened anyway.

Yes I get pretty unwell the day before and the first day. Nausea, headache (sometimes full on migraine), diarrhoea. Such fun.

ComDummings · 26/07/2022 08:36

Plus cramps. I think it’s the change in hormone level that does it all.

Yep same here. I get like a morning sickness type nausea a few days before my period. It usually goes a couple of days after my period starts. Drives me mad. I also get really bad dizziness (have to stay on the sofa all day) a couple of days beforehand. I hate periods. The pre-symptoms pretty much take up at least a week of my time every single month.
