To think egg chairs look uncomfortable?

Has anyone ever sat comfortably in one and read a book? They remind me of the chairs everyone had in the 90s, made of a wooden circle on top of another wooden circle with just some shite cushion for padding. Or am I wrong and they are actually brilliant?

Just googled and discovered they were called Papasan chairs. Sooo uncomfortable.

I had one and they are totally overrated. The wood that runs across the bottom snapped where I would sit down. Honestly I have never found them comfortable because you can always feel the wood through the cushion.

CrapBucket · 26/07/2022 11:41

Thats what would bother me. And the worry of splinters.

We’ve got a big egg shaped one on legs, not the swinging sort. We’ve piled it full of cushions and it’s great for me and the 3yo to snuggle up in together. Probably not great for tall people or those who like to stretch their legs out though!

BiscoffSundae · 26/07/2022 11:54

I was going to get one for my daughter but I’m glad I didn’t after reading this, they are so expensive and everyone raves about them.

Tessasanderson · 26/07/2022 11:55

Are you talking about the big hanging ones in the garden? If so yes they are very comfortable. I sit in mine for hours chilling out and have fallen asleep in it from time to time.

AgentMagenta · 26/07/2022 11:55

I do kinda want one. But I absolutely worry that it won't actually be comfortable. Maybe there's a very good reason why they're marketed as garden furniture.

I would like to try one but any store that sells them has a big 'DO NOT SIT' sign on them. Sometimes they even have tape around them.

TrashPandas · 26/07/2022 11:59

The hanging Bali ones are incredibly comfortable. They're very expensive though to get good quality.

Mellowyell292 · 26/07/2022 12:02

We've got one from B&M, so comfortable and relaxing to sit in. I absolutely love it.

TrashyPanda · 26/07/2022 12:04

I got one for my garden this summer.

it’s amazing. So comfy. Just live it.

and it Cost £200 - well worth it

I loved mine. So comfy for curling up un. It took up a lot of room though and creaked a lot. Didn't cost me too much if I remember correctly. But this was about 15 years ago.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/08/2022 09:00

I've got one, I love it!

I voted YABU. Thinking you were talking about Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen as they are SO comfortable.

However the ones you are on about are awful and not comfortable. So YANBU ans you can take one YABU vote off

You can just change your vote.

However I disagree and find the garden egg chairs really comfy

FlippinOmicron · 02/08/2022 09:23

I thought an Egg chair is the one designed by Arne Jacobsen.
I didn't know the other chairs are Egg chairs too.

Enko · 02/08/2022 10:20

@SavingsThreads not via my.mobile phone sadly

Watermelonsugarhighlove · 02/08/2022 10:21

Its the cushion that looks so comfy!

I have a double egg chair (swingy type, not legs) on my patio and I absolutely love it - can curl up out there for hours with books and cups of tea. It’s got a waterproof cover and I’ve even sat out there in it with that on while it’s been raining some days this spring/summer, peeping out at the weather through the zip!

usernotfound0000 · 02/08/2022 10:37

I have a hanging one from Aldi. I was worried I was just buying into the hype and wouldn't really use it. However, I have zero regrets! It is so comfortable! I spend hours in it reading or listening to podcasts. The kids love laying in it too if they can ever get me out of it. So I have to say YABU!

flumposie · 02/08/2022 10:39

The one I have in the garden is the comfiest chair outside

bluesky45 · 02/08/2022 11:04

We've got the Aldi swinging one. It's so comfortable! I either sticky legs out and rest them on a little table or I curl up in it which I do just on the sofa or whatever anyway. I can't feel the wood through the cushions personally. The swinging makes me want to doze off!
