Busy 🤦‍♀️

Am I seriously being unreasonable in thinking that everyone who I speak to rambles on about how busy they are? Are annoying? Here's an idea... learn time management, priorities and boundaries!!!!

Or the fucking cherry on the cake....
Every business social media is about how busy they are. Sorry but it totally puts me off even entertaining a business saying constantly how busy they are.

If businesses are so busy then they obviously don't need my money or custom. It makes me feel like I would be annoying them to use their business.

Just ranting because I can't sleep due to the biblical rain and had a look online for some presents for a 21st and a 11th birthday. Won't be using them because they are all moaning about how busy they are!!!!!

Anyone else?

Not me.

Americano75 · 23/07/2022 23:22

No.

'Here's an idea... learn time management, priorities and boundaries!!!!'

You can have those skills and still be busy, the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 23/07/2022 23:24

Yes you’re being unreasonable. You can have good time management, set boundaries and prioritise things and still be busy.

Being busy has nothing to do with organisation and more to do will having a full diary. Yes it becomes a problem if you’re not organised, double booking yourself and missing things that are within your control but that’s about lack of organisation making you seem busy.

Of course businesses will try and put across that they’re busy, they’re trying to suggest that they have lots of customers and therefore that their products are worth having hence being in demand.

SavoirFlair · 23/07/2022 23:25

Oh wow

theghostwriter · 23/07/2022 23:48

You have rain?

littlepeas · 23/07/2022 23:57

I agree that there is something quite off putting about this. I also don’t like it when you contact a person and are met with an assistant because said person is too busy to speak to you. This happened to me recently (work in an industry where personal connection is extremely important) and have now decided not to work with that person - I am almost as senior as they are and do all my own correspondence, there are some things that shouldn’t be delegated.

poppym12 · 23/07/2022 23:58

Rain?

Mangogogogo · 24/07/2022 00:03

the businesses are lying. My husbands ex business partner used to write how busy they were and ‘only one table left for tonight’ at the same time he’d be texting me telling me how bored he is cos noones in.

I have rain too :) north england

theghostwriter · 24/07/2022 00:06

No rain in the East. We're desperate.

Very interesting that businesses lie about being busy, when in fact it's putting people off.

eekyeeky · 24/07/2022 00:09

I don't know about online businesses, don't have time to waste on insta!

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2022 01:52

Love the weather chat Grin

Some people love being busy, some people love pretending they're busy and others love being idle.

FictionalCharacter · 24/07/2022 03:50

I don’t think YABU and strangely I was thinking about that today. I have a friend who used to constantly go on about how.busy she was and would say “busy busy busy” all the time. It was definitely a bit of a brag about her job. It was very tedious, and annoying when it took forever to arrange anything social because she was always So Busy.

Snog · 24/07/2022 04:25

I find it confusing that individuals want to be busy. To me it says they have lots of things scheduled which sounds like a bad thing!

EV117 · 24/07/2022 04:37

I understand the business thing is annoying because it’s blatant bullshit - I think it’s just to give an impression of popularity to try and entice customers in.
Businesses who are genuinely always busy wouldn’t make a thing out of it.

HannahSternDefoe · 24/07/2022 06:00

We had rain yesterday and overnight with more forecast for today. Grin

OP, I sort of agree about avoiding a business that claims to be "busy" - but equally you don't want one that has nothing to do either, surely? It's a fine line...

autienotnaughty · 24/07/2022 06:33

I am one of those people who fills their day with too much then moans how busy/tired I am. It doesn't help I have a dh and three children who love to give me jobs. But my mum use to do it a d it drove me up the wall!!

WhatNoRaisins · 24/07/2022 06:50

I think a lot of people see being busy as a virtue. Some will be genuinely busy but I think some over egg how busy they really are.

ScarlettSunset · 24/07/2022 07:12

I find it annoying too, but then most people I know who say they are busy seem to have a different definition of busy to me...
I do think it's entirely possible for a business to be busy but too often it seems to be used as an excuse for not providing a service in a timely manner. Obviously if it's a local one person business like a beauty salon where they can only fit in a limited number clients each day that's one thing, but often it seems to be stated on websites of bigger companies who really need to hire extra staff if they're so much in demand.

Fairyliz · 24/07/2022 07:15

I always find it amusing that they are never too busy to spend time telling you how busy they are.
Perhaps if they shut up moaning so much they would have time to get on with things.

Chikapu · 24/07/2022 07:15

We live in a society that glorifies 'busyness' though, if we're not busy then we're boring, disliked and probably friendless. If we are busy then we're interesting, in demand and successful. It's like a bloody cult.

WinterMusings · 24/07/2022 07:17

I'm a bit too busy to comment, except to say 'Rain'?? I'm puppy sitting for a friend in the SE & her garden is like the Sahara!! still at least he's only bringing in a bit of dust and not a gallon of mud!

Chikapu · 24/07/2022 07:17

We have rain too but it's disgustingly humid 😩

justfiveminutes · 24/07/2022 07:30

Is this a sm thing? No business has ever told me in rl that they're too busy. Sometimes true, sometimes a lie to make themselves seem more successful I suppose. I can't say it would bother me especially if judge on service, product or results only.

transformandriseup · 24/07/2022 07:38

I'm confused too? So DH's employers have a highly seasonal business that bring in most of their money in the summer. They are flat out with production and serving customers which they enjoy but also really organised and rarely stress so they still have 5 mins to post on social media.

I wouldn't let it bother you.

Notoironing · 24/07/2022 07:44

I moan about being too busy because I genuinely hate it and feel I have no choice. It’s not work busyness that bothers me because I do put in boundaries. It’s home, school and kids where I absolutely hate not being in control of my own life. The expectations of people’s time these days is far too high and I don’t think other people value family time or downtime enough.

I find it surprising how often people invite the kids over at the weekend, which means we can’t just chill out or go out as a family because someone has to go and pick someone up. Also effectively we never spend time with our kids because we work in the week. Don’t people just want to have a bit of downtime?

then there are sports things, camps, and that’s before we have visited family who live a long way away. The last time we had a free day was over a year ago. I’m sure life used to be simpler when I was a child.
