Snap Trap for Rats, What to use as Bait?

What is the best bait to use for snap traps? we spotted rat inside our bin and also in the garden near drain

Peanut butter

Jam

Honestly, I found their fave tastes vary rat by rat. Some went for cheddar, some for a jam

Will you be able to kill it if the trap gets the wrong part of the rat and the rat is still alive? It does happen.

Peanut butter. In rodent world they can smell that stuff like sharks can smell blood 2 miles away.

If you have a good snap trap properly set up, it’s dry unusual for it not to be a clean quick death (in answer to pp)

As others have said snap traps do not always have a clean kill, also please very very careful where you place these things, pet’s paws don’t stand a chance and neither does other wildlife such as hedgehogs, shrews, voles etc.

They are super clever... peanut butter on a nut, something which smells good ive been told, i got professionals in, UGH.. caught 2 one was about 14inches long and 7 inches wide.. GOOD LUCK!

Yeah. Over the years out of tens of rats we had to finish just 1 off ourselves. Though 2 wiggled out to die next to the trap. They were freakishly massive though and normal sized rats get killed basically instantly.

You can get special rat attractor bait. It mimics the "safe to eat" pheromones on other rats breath. They are cautious wee things about what they eat, surprisingly, as they can't vomit.

I think overall the traps are the most humane but agree do be ready to do a merciful dispatch if its not a clean kill.
