To ask how the hell you're supposed to brush babies teeth?!

My 18 month old has turned into a devil for this and I'm panicking about it.

He throws his head around, pushes my hand away, sticks his tongue in the way of the brush etc.. I have to literally hold his head with my other hand just to get the toothbrush in.

I feel like there's no possible way I am getting the actual teeth for long or well enough and I'm worried he's going to end up with horrid teeth but I'm at the end of my tether with it.

How do you do it!!!!!

There's a pokemon tooth brushing app that transformed our lives (no exaggeration). As teeth get cleaned they bag the little critters and end up with a photo of one on their head. Weird, but it worked a treat.

Just downloading this! Thanks for the tip!

What's that in your mounts? Is it a crocodile? Ooh he isn't supposed to be on there shall we brush him out? Let's try and get he tail first. Yay got it. What about his feet? Etc etc. My son sometimes has a whole zoo in there.

Or you could try the blippi tooth brushing song on YouTube.

Thank you so much for all the tips. I've ordered one of those baby electric brushes from boots and I'll try the Hey Duggee song tonight and see how we go.

I don't know if it's just DS but I feel like some of these things he just wouldn't get yet like bribery or an app, stickers if he lets me do it ect.. he seems a bit young for that at the moment I just don't think he'd understand the correlation if you see what I mean? Perhaps I just don't expect enough of him ha but he seems a bit baby-like still for that sort of thing.

I will give him a spare tooth brush to play with and see if he'll attempt to do mine tonight, he likes to copy so maybe we'll have some success that way. Either that or I'll get a toothbrush in my eye haha.

DS chooses his toothbrush (we have a few in circulation) and he gets first go, then it's my turn.

Wrap him in a towel and go for it. Mine used to watch a youtube toothbrushing song - we called it the Headlock Tune

Yeah, wrap them in a towel and brush while they have their mouths open complaining. Teeth are non negotiable so they get one chance with me then I go for it.

I ended up getting a kids electric toothbrush, one with a circular rotating head, so if it did turn into one of those days at least I knew some actual brushing was getting done.

generally though letting them brush yours, teddies and songs work a treat. DD(6) still hums baby shark whilst she brushes her teeth, we do a different family member for each area of her teeth that need brushing.

@tallwivglasses I've just downloaded this and tested it in myself. Quite enjoyed it! 🤣

We brush DS teeth when he’s sitting in the bath. He has one of the silicone chewable toothbrushes and we just hand it to him to chew. He’s very keen, he likes the taste of the toothpaste. And then I try to do a bit more of a thorough brush when he’s played for a bit.

@WulyJmpr i do this too. We call it dentist chair. Easier when dh holds his hands. But after a while he's gotten used to it now. Dh used to do theirs in the bath but I found the angles so difficult. When we do dentist chair I'm much quicker and can get everywhere.
