To be worried that my 3 month old is 'made of mashed potatoes'

I am still bf'ing m 3mo son and all I seem to want to eat is mashed potatoes!😃I am making myself have hummous with them for protein (veggie) and fruit and oats at breakfast to combat the worst of it, but it just feels so odd, like a pregnancy craving after the fact! with my elder daughter, I was so much better with food when I was feeding her. Do I need to worry? Did anyone else have any weird food obsessions after the baby arrived?

Could you be pregnant?

WinterMusings · 20/07/2022 15:52

How do YOU feel?

bbqhulahoop · 20/07/2022 15:53

Has it always been your go to carb? Breastfeeding makes you so hungry, especially at first

MarthanotMarfa · 20/07/2022 15:53

You’re just craving carbohydrates. Do you drink milk? If so then you could drink a bit more as it is a good balance of carb/fat (obviously!). It’s better than eating lots of bread. Could you vary and roast sweet potato/parsnip/squash/carrots etc to vary the theme?

MarthanotMarfa · 20/07/2022 15:54

p.s. Are you sure it’s mash you’re craving and not fats? Do you add butter for example?

I ate tons of pate on toast - it was the one thing I'd really wanted when pregnant that I couldn't have.

I didn't have any unusual cravings while breastfeeding, I just wanted food, food and more food! It's probably your body's way of letting you know you need to eat more to nourish yourself and your baby.

Or you could be pregnant?..

Thanks all! Definitely not preggers. We've needed help with both of ours. I do add milk and butter, so could be fats. I am not normally carb obsessed, but perhaps I have just forgotten the effect of Bfing on me, as the last time was nearly 5 years ago...

RebeccaCloud9 I ate lots of poached eggs after he arrived! With his sister it was peanut butter and honey toast!

Martha That's a good thought to try similar texture variations, will do that tonight!

For me it was porridge. SO much porridge!

Sleepyquest · 20/07/2022 16:18

For me it was sugar, just needed a full fat coke and chocolate cake as soon as she latched on. Thankfully that has stopped now
