Covid and school

My DC have shown symptoms of covid, I had some lateral flow tests stashed and they have both tested positive.
What are the current rules, can someone clarify please should they be isolating and not attending school?

Isolate for 3 days if a child.

BungleandGeorge · 17/07/2022 23:09

Isolate for 3 days starting the day after the test. If they are well after that they can go back. If they’re unwell with fever etc continue to keep them off

JanglyBeads · 17/07/2022 23:10

DfE guidance says they can attend school.

Stupidly.....

I didn't know if it was the heat making me not take in what info I was reading but this is what I thought

Does anyone have a link to the current guidelines please?

TheChosenTwo · 17/07/2022 23:18

They can attend school if feeling well.

They can attend school if feeling well.

With a positive test?

MyFaceHurts · 17/07/2022 23:25

Each school has its own policy, best to call and ask them, although it’s probably on their website or an email. My DD’s school asks for kids to be kept off for 5 days after testing positive.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 17/07/2022 23:36

My kids were both told by school to go in with positive tests and that we have to live life normally again, they clearly picked it up from school....

Verite1 · 17/07/2022 23:38

My DS school said to keep him off for 3 clear days. As it happened he tested negative on the final day anyway!

LilacPoppy · 17/07/2022 23:40

@JanglyBeads the NHS disagrees
If a child or young person aged 18 or under tests positive for COVID-19, they should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days. This starts from the day after they did the test.

Keep off for 3 days is gov guidelines for kids. Test day is day 0. It is just guidelines and not the law though. Check with your school what their policy is or is it on their website / newsletter?

cathcath2 · 17/07/2022 23:49

"Children and young people who are asymptomatic, choose to take a COVID-19 test and receive a positive test result are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day of the test."

I believe so, yes! Bonkers (or is it?! I have no idea anymore…)
I think our latest policy says it’s ‘guidance’ though, not law, so they can attend if tested positive and feeling well and not the law that they must isolate. Much like adults.
