To wonder what/if anything is going on?

My dh live streamed a dog show for my ds on his laptop earlier. My ds is 8 and
autistic, with a huge interest in dogs.

About 10 minutes in ds started shouting that there was a woman on the screen. I looked over and there was what appeared to be a topless woman (breasts not in view thankfully) on a webcam. Dh rushed over and shooed ds away, saying it was a pop up.

Dh has been weird since and incredibly defensive with me when I showed concern/shock. He said it’s just a pop up and I’m overreacting.

I am not at all computer savvy and would like to know if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this? Are there ads like this out there (topless woman waiting for chat)?

Regardless of whether or not it was innocent am I wrong in thinking dh should have either had some safety settings active or supervised ds if he knew there was a risk of illicit pop ups?

Do people still get pop ups?! I thought internet browsers blocked them all nowadays. I'm not an expert but it sounds a bit dodgy to me, do you trust your husband? His reaction sounds a bit shifty

You can definitely still get pop ups - but normally only I've you've been visiting unsavoury websites! Do you have access to the laptop at all? You can always check the history or keep an eye if you have concerns. It would be weird for a pop up to appear if you were on a totally unrelated site with no other tabs open, unless the laptop has been infected with some malware or similar.

Illegal streams (usually of sport) do often have extremely dodgy pop ups!

Or your sim stumbled onto an Onlyfans page

I expect its in his history. Anyway lesson learned, supervise your child more carefully.

If there’s really anyone of childbearing age left out there who doesn’t know how computers work to this extent in 2022, take a course so you can protect your child!

Do you know if your DH recorded the show himself, or if he found it already recorded on a site?

If it's the latter, there are sites where not-completely-legal content is available to stream or download - typically films or episodes of TV series which would normally be available through a paid service, or may be available for free in another country but not in the UK (or wherever you are). On those sites, pop-ups and re-directs are very common and many of them have sexual content like what you describe, and even more explicet.

Can you ask him to play you the video he played your son? Don't get distracted by his defensiveness; he could have the best intentions and you still want to be sure your child is protected as much as possible from accessing something predictably upsetting to him.

Satelliteheart: Do people still get pop ups?! I thought internet browsers blocked them all nowadays. Many "free" streaming sites won't work unless you temporarily modify the settings or "pause" the blockers, so some people do that voluntarily to be able to watch the content they want.

From the sounds of it, your DH was using one of those free streaming sites. It's not unusual for ads/pop-ups on these sites to be on the x-rated side. It's what gets clicks and gets the site owners paid by the advertisers! I use one for some shows occasionally and I certainly see a lot of interesting adverts 🙃

When we watch new movies these adds come up. Doesn't mean he's looked at anything. I get emails saying asking me out by Women lol. Just spam.

I am reassured and I’m not going to give dh a hard time. We do need to monitor ds closely though and make sure whatever he’s watching isn’t putting him at risk though. I am cross that he allowed him on a site he knew was dodgy.

If he was streaming on an unofficial site they constantly have pop ups including lots of porny/escort type ones. I get them when watching shows online and it's certainly not because of my history.
