It's not a set up is it? (Interview related)

NC'd as I'm embarrassed.

I live rurally (think 400 people) and there are a few shops and 3 hotels. I've worked in most of them throughout the last 5 years. I have applied several times for my old job back, messaged my old manager (got no response) and a friend who worked there. Two other friends spoke on my behalf to the manager about me wanting to come back but don't know what the response was. The friend I messaged (that's a department manager) has asked me to come in and speak to one of the more senior managers that I've never met. I'm now conflicted because I'm panicking that they're going to tell me to stop applying/ asking but my friend (who doesn't work there) says that's not legal and it has to be for an interview. Is there any chance I'm right? I'm really worried but I'm very desperate for the money (nearly can't afford bills) and they're hiring whereas the other places aren't right now, hence me being persistent. Can this be a 'please leave us alone' meeting or would they not even bother doing that and it's definitely an interview? I have anxiety if you couldn't tell.

They'd just tell you in writing or over the phone they don't have a vacancy or that you hadn't been shortlisted, I would think. It doesn't sound like they're calling you in to tell you to go away!

It's not "illegal" to tell people they're not getting a job, either in writing or face-to-face - I don't know what your friend means by that.

I would guess that at best it is an interview and worst its to explain why they have passed you over so many times. You don't say why you left in the first place. Did you burn bridges?

Hillrunning · 17/07/2022 16:11

Why don't you jsut call your friend and ask them if it is an interview or not?

lexicome · 17/07/2022 16:12

@Hillrunning I should've asked but I know they're working just now and not been online for hours. I didn't burn bridges but left for childcare reasons that have since been resolved.

It sounds like an informal chat to see if you could do any work
for them . It’s def not to tell you to stop enquiring about jobs . Good luck

OK,that's great. So sendthe friend a message: Hi X. Great, could you send me managers number so that I can confirm my availability for the interview directly please?

Try not to let the anxiety get the better of your thoughts
