To blow into my Rottweilers face and record his vicious reaction for a laugh?

Bloody idiots everywhere! I joined TikTok to watch dog videos (as in dog training etc) and I’ve noticed a new “trend” which always seems to involve winding up Rottweilers/pitbulls etc just to see their reaction. I always scroll past as soon as they start but one yesterday had me absolutely gobsmacked.

A small baby crawling towards a Rottweiler. Rottweiler growls - humans tell the dog off and instruct dog to go and “kiss” baby. Dog clearly uncomfortable around baby but does as he’s told, reluctantly.

There have been so many dog attacks in the news lately, why are people still doing shit like this??

AIBU to think every single person in the UK should be required to have a license to own a dog … and to get that licence you should be made to attend a training course and pass an exam? I’m sick of absolute idiot dog owners. Don’t even get me started on the off-lead “don’t worry, my dog is friendly!” types.

BTW - I’m a dog lover.

Literally just seen another one after I posted this - someone catching a dogs fart into a balloon and then letting the fart out into the dogs face. Dog reacted aggressively (as one would!) and everyone laughs. What is wrong with people??

I've just been reading an article that says that dog attacks are the new public health crisis.

I'm inclined to agree, having just read that a 43 year old woman has been killed in a dog attack. How terrible.

dottiedodah · 17/07/2022 08:41

A woman has been killed just yesterday and her husband has life changing injuries after being attacked by their xl bully dog .so yes people are idiots

BlusteryLake · 17/07/2022 08:45

Unfortunately the most irresponsible owners tend to have the most aggression prone types of dogs. Terrible combination.

Mamamia7962 · 17/07/2022 08:45

OP - How would someone even know if their dog was going to fart, it's not like they can tell you is it. Most of the videos on TikTok are fake.

tabulahrasa · 17/07/2022 08:47

The bigger issue is that actually, that’s not normal dog behaviour and too many people believe it is.

Ive seen the baby one, the owner and other people are all insisting it’s just a normal rottie noise, it’s absolutely not, it’s a very stressed dog.

Aggressive reactions to things like blowing or balloons aren’t normal and thinking they are and passing it off entertainment is blooming dangerous, never mind the poor upset dogs being filmed.

Sirzy · 17/07/2022 08:49

It’s madness and it’s cruel.

then the dogs are villanised when they respond to being taunted

coffeecupsandfairylights · 17/07/2022 08:52

Too many people have no idea about the ladder of aggression in dogs or about canine body language and behaviour.

I work with dogs and they can be dangerous and unpredictable - no matter what breed.

If you're going to get a massive, strong dog then you need to bloody well train it within an inch of it's life. Even if they're not aggressive, a dog like that could cause some serious injuries if they were to jump at a child and knock them over onto concrete or a sharp edge of a table, for example.

cottagegardenflower · 17/07/2022 08:54

Fuckwits as DS says.

pinkstripeycat · 17/07/2022 08:54

I agree with you about the TikTok posts OP.
Dog licences were scrapped in the 80s, they didn’t work. Chipping doesn’t work to trace owners who abandon their dogs. It’s so hard to “make” people be responsible.
No amount of training will stop idiots who think it’s funny to make their dogs perform.
There are so many irresponsible dog owners. I’ve see SO many people this week walking their dogs during the hottest part of the day. You can see the poor dogs can barely put one foot in front of the other.
I agree with you that something should be done but it’s so hard to put the right thing in place that actually works

arrogantorwhat37 · 17/07/2022 08:54

Dog licences were abolished several years ago, because as with most things, they were deemed to expensive to administer, and while most responsible owners had them, the usual idiots didn't, nor did they give a shit about paying the paltry fine if caught without one.
Nothing changes. Sadly while these ignorant fools practice Darwinism, there is collateral damage, usually children

SuperCamp · 17/07/2022 08:55

Police should look at the SM of every dog owner reported for having a dog that bites or attacks.

I don’t have TikTok but I see so many irresponsible ‘baby / toddler with dog” videos trailed on Facebook, clocking up thousands of Likes. Maybe if people start reporting this stuff? En masse? Report for animal cruelty, endangering kids etc?

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 17/07/2022 08:59

Those videos are sickening. I don't do Tik Tok but I have seen plenty on FB. And when anyone comments negatively other commentators round on them like a pack!

FOJN · 17/07/2022 09:04

It's not just dogs people taunt on SM. I've seen people dripping lime juice into cats mouths to film the reaction. I've seen people deliberately scare their pets to get a reaction. What is wrong with people? Pets are not toys and dogs can cause serious harm and yet people still get likes for doing really cruel things. I can't watch them anymore, it's just too upsetting.
I have a dog and would sign up to any scheme which was effective in preventing twats owning any pet.

Lalosalamanca · 17/07/2022 09:10

People are so so stupid. I can't find it in me to care if someone dies because of their own stupidity. I do of course feel sorry for the dog and innocent victims like babies, children etc.
I suspect a license wouldn't sort the issue. Let's look at idiots on the road for example. Plenty people pass their driving license and proceed to drive recklessly/dangerously.
Not sure what the answer is, if indeed there is any .

VirginiaCreek · 17/07/2022 09:15

There must be something that can be done though surely? People are literally buying dangerous animals with no limitations. Might as well let people keep chimpanzees and wolves

OP posts:
Lalosalamanca · 17/07/2022 09:20

The dangerous animals are the humans mate. You are looking at this the wrong way around.

Very true, but I can’t imagine them putting restrictions on idiots breeding anytime soon.

Any dog shouldn't be on the same level as babies and small children full stop. I hate those videos of dogs "kissing" children or children lying on dogs and people saying how much they love their little human. Both are unpredictable, both can react suddenly, only dogs bite in fear and as a reaction to pain. They also are always aware of their place in the pack, and may try to achieve moving up over a defenceless child. People who don't understand the basics of dog behaviour are the ones who get bitten and whose children get killed.

ReneBumsWombats · 17/07/2022 09:28

I suppose the only halfway good thing is that these morons are presumably identifiable in their videos.

EV117 · 17/07/2022 09:30

These people are immature and sadistic twats. If bear bating was still a legal past time these people with limited brain cells would probably be buying tickets and finding the experience hilarious.

Lalosalamanca · 17/07/2022 09:30

@VirginiaCreek haha that's exactly the solution but as you say, just not going to happen. Damn it!!!

KnittingNeedles · 17/07/2022 09:30

Clearly total fuckwits. People are free to be fuckwits in their own home and if their dog turns on them, then they live with the consequence of their fuckwittery.

Their children do not have that option though do they? And neither do members of the public who come across them and their fuckwittery when out for a walk. DH and I came across one of those fuckwits when out for a walk in some woods recently (geocaching), came round a corner in the path and were confronted by a large, mastiff type mutt, hackles up and growling aggressively at us. Owner some distance away calling weakly for the dog to come back. Dog ignored him completely, even when owner caught up and was 5 feet away the dog paid no heed.

Very scary and didn't even get a sorry from the arsehole owner.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 17/07/2022 09:33

Drives me crazy. On a semi related note, I follow a lot of Guinea pig stuff on Instagram and there’s one poster in particular who always posts pics of her pigs “snuggled” up with a Dachshund, going on about how they are best mates. I mean FFS! A dog bred for ratting with a small furry animal stressed out of its brain. Dickheads.

Aww I love Guinea pigs ❤️ But yeah I’ve seen similar videos, Jack Russell “playing” with the family rabbit etc 🤦‍♀️
