Taking kids

My elderly cat took poorly at midnight and I needed to take her to the emergency vet. Which is a 35 min drive away. I thought it was the end if you catch my drift.

I took my kids (7&12) with me because the eldest was awake (she'd been up worrying about the cat) and wanted to come and there was no way I could leave them on their own obviously

It's now 5am.. kids have slept in the car the whole time and we are only just heading home as the vets was way busy.

AIBU taking them?

Just to be clear I have zero family, their father passed away so is not around. My only friends are either away (best friend is away) or at work (nights) so it is literally just me.

I'd normally leave them with a neighbour but they're on holiday for 2 weeks.

Kinda worried I did the wrong thing now and that the vet will report me.

I stayed with them in the car the whole time. They slept the whole time.

Cat is ok - though she has to be admitted as they've only just seen her and she is poorly.

You're a single parent and you were with your children the whole time. What do you think you did wrong that anyone could report you for? The answer is absolutely nothing. You're probably tired and worried about the cat and not thinking straight. Have some rest and I hope she recovers.

You are probably upset because your cat is so I'll buy you did the right thing taking them with you. You could not leave them home alone. Get some sleep now.

You didn't have a choice. They were with you and safe, no need to worry about it.

Thank you all xxx

They are your children and they were safe and looked after with you. You didn't do anything wrong at all. We live in the UK, we have basic freedoms.

Even if you had taken them to Tesco Extra to get ice cream there would be nobody to 'report' you to.
