Surgery and covid

Hi all, I just need opinions as I’m really worried.

my son is having major surgery that we have waited for for years.

it’s on 21/07, my dh and I tested positive for covid on 14/7. We have sent my son to my sisters to isolate and dh and I are in quarantine.

we will be 5 days out of quarantine on Tuesday. Would we be unreasonable to go with him to surgery if we test negative on 20/7.

I can’t find anything on Google and I’m waiting to hear back from the surgeon.

thank you

Not sure wouldn't they expect you to have two negative tests before going near a hospital

@Pinkwaterbortle this is AIBU. A forum where people pose dilemmas, scenarios and areas of life where they’d like judgement , opinion and support from other Mumsnetters. As a result it gets pretty busy with both people who want to reply to interesting topics. And people who want a front seat at a bunfight.

There is a Health forum and a COVID forum - both get plenty of replies every day. Post this there.

I don’t understand how you will be 5 days out of quarantine?
Are you in the uk?
You obviously wouldn’t be unreasonable to go if you both test negative however you might not actually test negative by the 20th.

itsgettingweird · 16/07/2022 10:31

When I was in 2 weeks ago for an OP I had to take a LFT 3 days before and then isolate after until surgery.

When my dad and ds came to collect me from the ward they didn't have to test and it's not mandated for masks now either.

Pinkwaterbortle · 16/07/2022 10:40

@luxxlisbon we are in uk. I have quarantined myself from others because I don’t want to pass covid on.

my dh and I have decided only I will do with ds and it will be 7 days clear since I tested negative so I’ll be out of the recommended isolation period.

the ward said they will temp check me on the day and lft my ds on the morning of the op. Ds hasn’t been with us since I tested positive and won’t see us now until we go into hospital

Sorry typo. Since I tested positive

The hospital will prob postpone the surgery anyway if he's been in contact with covid. This is what would happen where I work - too many parents selfishly not declaring symptoms etc.

Would be very selfish to visit anyway as there are likely to be kids that are much sicker than yours.

Pinkwaterbortle · 16/07/2022 13:31

I’ve called the ward and they said as long as I’m negative and it’s been 7 days since my positive the surgery will go ahead.

they said I’ll have to wear a mask anyway but it must happen
