Voluntary jobs on jobs websites?

girlfriend44 · 15/07/2022 21:37

When I browse a well known jobs site there are always lots of voluntary jobs on there.

Surely if your looking for a job you don't expect to see Volunteer roles?
Should they have separate sections or their own boards?

It depends. If you are a bored SAHM who needs to feel human again and already spends half your life in MN, why not?

girlfriend44 · 15/07/2022 22:31

It's not mn job board.

that would annoy me too

is there a way to filter them out?

ThinWomansBrain · 15/07/2022 22:36

Seems an odd way to advertise - you're hardly going to get to your target market.
I work in the charity sector; I often look for professional roles and get bombarded with trustee roles.
While I do take trustee roles on from time to time, I'm hardly likely to do that If I'm looking to change roles myself & thus not sure of time availability in the forthcoming months.

Saz12 · 15/07/2022 22:37

... some people “browse” job sites to see what’s out there. Some voluntary stuff might be a good career move (eg charity board of directors, trustees, etc).

ThinWomansBrain · 15/07/2022 22:38

I get trustee roles come up even when I've put a salary filter on!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/07/2022 22:41

Oh this so annoys me. Then when you click on it (‘cos I’m an idiot who annoys herself), it’s a minimum of 12 hour shifts or some other nonsense - for a VOLUNTEER role. I’m practically yelling at the ‘advert’….
but hey, at least I know that if they treat volunteers that badly, I don’t want to actually work there for £££

OneFrenchEgg · 15/07/2022 22:47

Same - I'm third sector and have been looking at a well known charity I'd like to move to. Sadly unless I want to volunteer to run a book club or something there's nothing there.

LightSpeeds · 15/07/2022 23:02

But if you're looking for voluntary work, you know you can go to a job site to find roles...

LikeAStar1994 · 15/07/2022 23:32

Why do people on here always say that something is "well known" but doesn't actually disclose what it is? If it's as well known as you say then why not disclose it?

Weird place this is.

SarahSissions · 15/07/2022 23:33

They do it on LinkedIn, it pisses me off no end .

I didn't know if you could mention names on here.

Its Indeed.

I did it too - I just don't see what value it adds to put the name when it's an example of a general trend. Knowing MN I'd just get loads of posters trawling through the charity I referred to as ' well known' to prove me wrong.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 16/07/2022 14:46

More than I wish for an edit button on here - I wish that there was a filter button on indeed.

SarahSissions · 16/07/2022 14:52

I’m also applying for a lot of jobs to be told they are start ups and I’ll need to work for free for six months until they can secure funding and then we can talk about money….
