TBH I’ve pretty negative connotation to people who use it, so thought I’d ask what they mean to others and see if I misunderstood.

I've got a very negative feeling towards anyone that uses it, mainly because those that do seem to mean 'family values for everyone else', or 'do as I say, not as I do'.

That didn't answer your question though, did it?!

To me, those that thump on the tub of 'family values' usually mean:

Nuclear heterosexual family unit
Traditional patriarchal structure
Anti-abortion
Anti LGBT+
Father as owner and safeguarder of daughter's virtue
Ideally, father as breadwinner, mother as SAHP
Often Christian, although can be other religions - so a religious base.

To me it's a term used by right wingers to describe heterosexual married couples with children, and bashing anybody that doesn't fit into that eg single mothers

I think the term 'family values' has expanded to be pc and to include same-sex realtionships. I don't see it as connected to any religion. So some of @mbosnz's list. woth modifications

Nuclear family unit: heterosexual and same-sex (in fact the wider family values friendship group must include at least one same sex couple to demonstrate thier coolness inclusive values)
Traditional patriarchal structure (despite the above)
Anti-abortion (in general)
Ideally, father as breadwinner, mother as SAHP 'while the children are tiny' not recognising how difficult it is for the SAHP to re-enter the workplace
