Would a Tile work for this situation?

Looking at this www.amazon.co.uk/Tile-Bluetooth-finding-Android-Compatible/dp/B09C29FR4G/ref=asc_df_B09C29FR4G/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=535046870780&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18193669109008585305&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046823&hvtargid=pla-1444300906255&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

For a very specific situation. We're going to a big event in a couple of weeks with my dad who refuses to carry a phone. He also has form for wandering off and getting lost. I spent two hours at the Great Yorkshire Show yesterday trying to find him. It was extremely stressful and I'm looking for something to help.

Would a Tile work? I've never used them before but just looking for something to help take some of stress out of it.

(He's also currently being assessed for a couple of health issues which affect his memory so doubly worrying when he goes missing!)

It’s not really designed for tracking people, but could work to a degree.

Primarily they are designed to be found in reasonable proximity to your phone, and then potentially across the ‘network’ by other users of the app

Tom Scott did a similar test with Apple tags:

If you ha e access to an iPhone you may find that an apple air tag would work better as you're more likely to be in proximity to loads of people with iPhones.

The tile, without a subscription, works by proximity to your phone, so when your dad wanders off you wouldn't get a location on him just a "last seen at" location and when you "pig" the tile you won't hear it go off as you're in a loud public space.

However the apple air tag I "think" gives you a location of the tag based on the fact it interacts with others iPhones (I think).

So I'd say the Tile definitely won't fit your needs, but an apple air tag might...have a look at that.

*"ping" the tile

QuestionableMouse · 14/07/2022 20:27

Thank you. I'm genuinely not sure what else to try. He absolutely refuses to carry a phone. I put his in his stroller for a smaller event and he went mad about it. Thinking I could sneak a tile onto his stroller and he wouldn't notice it. Was kinda worrying yesterday because he's not brilliant on his feet either and so I spent the tile we were looking for him hoping he hadn't fallen or something.

@44pumplane I have an Android only, no iPhones in my family unfortunately. Maybe I'll go really old fashioned and tie a bit of string to him 😂

Thank you though!

What about a key finder like this one?Tag Bluetooth Anti-lost Tracker Wireless Key Tracker GPS Locator for iOS/iPhone/Android (Pink) amzn.eu/d/ek9PWu4 Tracker

ImFuminHun · 14/07/2022 21:56

what you could do is agree on a large meeting place (somewhere tall that you can see where ever you are) and ping the noise over to the tile and that would be his notice that you're looking for him and he needs to meet you at the big blue tent.

supertedlasso · 14/07/2022 22:00

There are some trackers with a sim and GPS. I think Vodafone had a range that was reasonably price. Search for kids or pets ones. They'd be much more expensive than a tile though.

BlackAndPinkNose · 14/07/2022 22:04

I've got several tiles - they are reliant on other tile users having their app activated to receive a signal to show where the tile is. I found them to be too unreliable so bought air tags which take me exactly to where they are - presumably there must be an Android equivalent?

I think it's still in the works.

Watch with GPS tracking?

QuestionableMouse · 15/07/2022 01:18

Some good ideas here, thank you.

He'll only wear an analogue watch so not sure one with GPS would work.

I'm genuinely thinking about adding a hidden pocket in his stroller and hiding his phone in it so at least I can track that.

We've tried agreeing on a time/place to meet but he gets distracted or talking and forgets.

I don't want to curtail his freedom, but it'd be nice to be able to find out where he is, too so I don't end up searching for him while worrying!
