I'm horrified he'd take part in this which is essentially a 'legal' hate crime against the Irish, burning the Irish flag along with images of their leraders etc and people at the parade proclaiming openly on BBC ''we hate the Irish and Catholics.''

Where's the flag or emblems. Not all bonfires burn any of these sort of effigies and I think you should proceed with caution around these sort of allegations.

This is a list of the very non dangerous activities at the event. I don't see how anyone could be threatened by Highland dancers, penalty kick outs and bric a brac stalls. Why try and create hatred and sectarianism when it obviously didn't exist.

Its an orange event. Its inherantly sectarian.

Lol...well given that our ex First Minister was heading the 12th this year, i think you are being a bit harsh on poor Jim!

(Not that i parttake in the event)

I believe that Charlie Lawson attended the event alongside Arlene Foster. The Orange Order are quite entitled to hold social events and I'm awaiting the proof of the flags or effigies at this bonfire.

powershowerforanhour · 14/07/2022 18:14

I think the effigies were burned in Carrickfergus (and this was roundly condemned ). He was at the bonfire in Fivemiletown.

Just4today · 14/07/2022 18:15

The article linked to only mentions him lighting the traditional 11th night bonfire. If you have info about him burning flags or other sectarian shite then can you link to that? As nothing in the article merits the cancellation you desire.

Igmum · 14/07/2022 18:15

To be fair, given that this seems to be an officially organised event and I can't see any sign of burning flags and effigies, I think this can reasonably be presented as celebrating one group rather than threatening or slating another. I might not like his politics, but people are entitled to disagree with me and even to disagree with me in public. I think it would be unfair to ban him on that basis - unless you want to offer more evidence of something else.

RichardsGear · 14/07/2022 18:25

When was the last time he was on ITV (or indeed any TV!) anyway?

This.

Religious groups are quite entitled to hold social events for their members.Surely this is what they were doing.
