And I know it won’t and can’t happen for all sorts of good reasons, but a handful of dicks are spoiling MN for me at the moment.

AIBU to just leave any threads when they show up? Problem is they are always prolific posters.

OP posts:

I’m not sure you can ask for peoples opinions and then just hide the ones you don’t agree with. If posts are genuinely offensive then report them to mods, they are usually pretty on it and fair

Tolstory · 13/07/2022 20:26

There are no rules of engagement. You could always ignore...

DelisButAlsoCrime · 13/07/2022 20:28

I’m obviously not very observant as I spend a lot (too much!) time on Mumsnet and don’t even really clock usernames or frequent posters. Maybe if I browsed the same boards more regularly I would though, I just use Active

MichelleScarn · 13/07/2022 20:30

If they're being offensive and breaking talk guidelines report, if you just don't like what they say ignore!

ILIWYS · 13/07/2022 20:44

There are a couple of posters I'd love to be able to put on permanent mute

ManateeFair · 13/07/2022 20:57

I would bloody love to mute or block people on Mumsnet just like you can on social media.

This ^^

I was in a thread recently and because of repeated MN reports all or an inflammatory posters posts got removed and the minority of 3- r posters posts that were just so nasty got deleted and by comments they made that they were leaving thread "before (they) get banned" it seems like after removing multiple of their posts, MNHQ sent them a warning

. It's better to have MNHQ remove the horrid posters and tell them they'll be banned if they continue arsehatterg but I'm 100% behind you as they think there should be an automatic block on a thread for anyone getting 10 different PP reports for one thread on their posts! Or the OP can block them if say 5 other multiple others report them.

Tiani4 · 13/07/2022 21:03

Oh I quoted wrong post! I meant to quote post saying report their posts to MNHQ

Tiani4 · 13/07/2022 21:04

Ooh I did!! Sorry that poster did say what I thought

Yes! We can hide individual threads; why not individual posters? It would be so peaceful.

AbsoluteShambles · 13/07/2022 21:25

I know what you mean.

It’s not about not liking different opinions, it’s about certain people putting their opinion across in a twatty way.

And then there’s the lot who accuse people of not liking their answer in AIBU but they’re ‘answering’ a completely different question to the one the OP asked or making up context that wasn’t given.

SomePosters · 13/07/2022 21:49

I believe the argument is that it makes threads unreadable if you’ve blocked posters but since that’s only an individual problem I don’t see why I can’t inflict that on myself

it’s better than having to read the vile bile that some people spew

I think this was my post that you're referring to (I recognise your name as someone who stood up for me). I was really surprised I wasn't able to block certain posters. People can literally post over and over and over and over, dozens of comments saying the same thing, and you can't stop them or even prevent yourself having to see it. I can understand things that are a difference of opinion and it being a bit precious to want to block someone who's just saying something you find annoying but, I think, when it's your thread and someone is repeatedly posting things that mods have to take down, it'd be helpful to be able to prevent them engaging with you. It'd make less work for the mods too - and it'd stop people coming back under a new username and pretending to be someone else.
