To shave or not?

Sparklybutold · 12/07/2022 18:47

So I'm pretty au natural but notice it does influence what I wear if I'm out, especially armpit hair. With the weather currently replicating what it must feel like to live in a volcano...

Do you wear what you want regardless of hair to skin ratio?

Do you judge others if they're au natural?

I wished I had the confidence to just wear what I want when I want regardless of hair status. I couldn't care less about other Womens hair coverage but have a different criteria for myself?

I would definitely shave, plenty wouldn't. Its up to you and how confident you are with your choice.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/07/2022 19:03

I don’t care, wouldn’t usually notice either way. If I did notice I wouldn’t think anything. I think weather people shave or not varies more these days.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/07/2022 19:04

WHETHER not weather

LynneBenfield · 12/07/2022 19:04

I can’t say as I look at other women’s armpits or leg hairs.

I prefer to shave but I couldn’t give two tosses what others do.

Kanaloa · 12/07/2022 19:05

I only really care about my own bodily hair. Couldn’t care less if other people shave or wax or leave it alone. Shave your legs if you like, don’t if you don’t. Same with showering and all the other things people canvas mumsnet about - just do what you want to do and others will do what they want.

Stellaris22 · 12/07/2022 19:06

Judging someone for not shaving is pretty disgusting tbh. Being comfortable is far more important, I wear summer dresses without having shaved my legs. Or shorts and vests to the gym without having shaved. Never had any comments or stares.

HJ40 · 12/07/2022 19:07

I prefer to shave but I will certainly let my legs get to cheese grater status before I wear trousers or shave again.

It's up to an individual what they do. Main thing in weather like this is to make sure armpits don't smell. IME easier to remain fresh as a daisy without hair.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/07/2022 19:07

I do very occasionally shave. But it's rare. I don't give a hoot if anyone notices

GladysRags · 12/07/2022 19:07

I've never shaved, waxed, trimmed etc any of my body hair, anywhere and my armpits look like a jungle.
I wear strappy and short sleeved tops and I don't give a fig what anyone thinks.

Fairislefandango · 12/07/2022 19:13

I shave, but I wouldn't remotely judge women who didn't. Dd16 doesn't- she will happily wear shorts and vest tops in full hairiness. She doesn't seem to give a monkey's, and good for her! I wouldn't have had the confidence to do that at 16, but times were different then, I guess.

ParanoidGynodroid · 12/07/2022 19:14

I shave when I can be bothered or feel inclined. Sometimes very thoroughly everywhere. Haven’t done it for weeks now though, and have still worn cropped trousers and sleeveless tops with nary a thought of what anyone thought.

Just do what makes you feel comfortable, OP, don’t bother with what ransoms think.

Sparklybutold · 12/07/2022 19:24

Confidence been mentioned a couple of times and I think this may be why I couldn't care less if others don't but then feel unkempt if I don't? I'm aware this statement doesn't seem to make sense though?

limitededitionbarbie · 12/07/2022 19:27

If I'm going out in a dress or with my legs showing I will shave them but probably only then.

I will prob shave once on holiday for a weeks holiday.

DillyDilly · 12/07/2022 19:30

If you feel unkempt, then shave. I don’t think it’s got anything to do with confidence. You will look neater/more groomed with leg and underarm hair removed. It’s a little like iron or not to iron - whatever your preference. Or to wear make-up or not.

FlissyPaps · 12/07/2022 19:32

I shave my legs, arms, armpits and bikini like.
(Don’t bother shaving my legs in winter though)

I feel very self conscious, as my body hair is quite dark, I’m very pale so it stands out.

But, if one of my friends turns round and says “I’ve not shaved my legs” whilst wearing a skirt/dress I genuinely wouldn’t give a shit.

We get so self conscious and worried about what other people think about us we don’t factor in that nobody (or very little people) actually cares.

Do whatever you feel most comfortable with OP. Most people won’t give a shit if you’ve got hair on show. Some might, but leave them to it.

Furrbabymama1987 · 12/07/2022 19:40

I shave. If I see a woman with hairy armpits or legs I don't think it looks very nice. But beyond that I don't care. None of my business.

Like pimples isn’t it? If I have a spot or a breakout I feel rubbish but I’ve never looked at anyone else and thought ‘gosh look how SPOTTY she is yuck!’ We always find weird ways of feeling self conscious about stuff we’d never judge anyone else for.

Sillystripytail · 12/07/2022 19:45

I shave because I don't like the way it looks and it feels messy. The hairs scratch my opposite leg when they're prickly too. The maintenance winds me up during the summer though, it's such an effort to do. I couldn't care less what other people do though!

alphapie · 12/07/2022 19:48

Considering armpit hair causes moisture to linger on your armpits for longer leading to more sweat marks on clothing, in this weather I'd definitely be shaving.

I sweat way less with arm pit hair. Never get wet patches or sweat marks

GladysRags · 12/07/2022 19:52

,@alphapie Do you think shaven pits don't leave sweat marks? I assure you that they do.

GladysRags · 12/07/2022 19:52

@AllThingsServeTheBeam Ditto.

Nope, weird take on a fact tbh

alphapie · 12/07/2022 19:54

@AllThingsServeTheBeam maybe you should offer yourself up for study.

It's a simple fact, body hair retails moisture, therefore making things worse in summer. Google it if you'd like.

I'm sorry. You actually think shaven arm pits don't leave sweat marks?
