To think ds is lying

Ds aged 12 (almost 13) has a phone (obviously in my name.) My bill was higher than usual. Turns out he's dialed, for 1 second. an adult services number.
I've asked him and he's in tears. First saying it wasn't him, then says it was a link via tiktok. He clicked on it without realising and immediately ended it.
The call cost £6.40! Dd says that doesn't happen with tiktok... is he lying?

If he's clicked on a link yes it could, have you not locked down their phones?

FeliciaFancybottom · 12/07/2022 17:23

Did the call connect? If it only rang for 1 second how have you been charged?

liveforsummer · 12/07/2022 17:34

I've never seen a phone number link on tik tok. I guess that doesn't absolutely mean it doesn't exist but I don't think so. He'd probably have to clock more than one thing to actually make a call

MumOfNowGrownupKids · 12/07/2022 17:34

Yes, he's probably lying, but he's a rising teen boy. Probably tried to take a look, got scared and hung up. Now too embarrassed to admit to it. Time for a frank discussion about online dangers and what is "normal" as opposed to what is on the internet. It's way too easy for young lads to have their ideas of what to expect from girls warped by exposure to internet porn. It's also way to easy to assume teenagers (boys and girls) are not going to explore online, especially when with their friends.

Tiktok's website says these are prohibited:
Sexual products and services - Adult entertainment and paraphernalia including pornography, sex toys, lubricants, and fetish costumes, including some underwear like corsets and micro-thongs
My guess would be he was with a group of friends, did it for a laugh but immediately regretted it and hung up

sst1234 · 12/07/2022 17:35

Yes he’s lying. Of course he’ll make up excuses. Nip it in the bud now.

He is either telling the truth or he's lying and he then immediately hung up.

ZaraSizeMedium · 12/07/2022 17:42

I assume you have an itemised bill with the number he dialled and the duration of the call.

Can you Google the number, would that show up the company name? And tell your DS you’re going to get in touch with them to find out if they advertise on TikTok.

Have you taken the phone off him, checked the internet history, etc?

SpaceJamtart · 12/07/2022 17:51

I would believe him, 1 second is so fast, that is the duration it would take to click a link that starts callling someone and immediately hang up.
Tik tok doesn't vet all the uploads its easy for inaproppriate ones to go on, it being against the community guidelines just means that the user gets banned and the video is taken down.

RunningFromInsanity · 12/07/2022 17:56

I wouldn’t be hassling him for a 1sec phonecall. Take the money out of his allowance if you must.
Now he knows that you can see it, he’s not going to do it again.

SwanLake66 · 12/07/2022 18:32

He's calmed down now. Says he didn't mean to call and didn't realise. It basically connected that's it.
The number doesn't come up on Google properly. I've taken his phone for now and he's paying it out of pocket money. Whether I'm getting the complete truth I'm not sure but given his devastated reaction he won't be doing it again. He can't anyway as I've put a block on those numbers!
