Same book band for a year

Ds has always been a good reader. In Reception and Y1 he was above expected for reading, Maths and writing. We are now at the end of Y2 and he's been on the same book band for a year, he's not been assessed for reading over the year. The children don't read to anyone in school as parents are expected to do this. I gave no problems with that but just think a year is a long time to be on the same level?

In our school they read to someone at least once a week and both mine have gone up 2 or 3 book bands this year ... Can you pop a note in Class Dojo etc to ask if they will assess him? I'm surprised he's not run out of books!

www.mumsnet.com/talk/primary I know this was covered in here also if helpful - I know it’s not AIBU but you get good responses here too

DD had the same book for a month in yr1. We just read with her outside school. Library books, our books, but also a subscription to reading chest so we always had books of the right band. Then we could track her progress and knew where she should be.

It's shocking that school don't assess. Have you asked the teacher about this? And if they are unhelpful, maybe talk to the head or the govenors? With no reading assessments they cannot effectively track progress. And if they are assessing your child and they are not progressing, they need to put interventions in place to meet your child's needs.
