Front door key

Posting for traffic.

Got home with 2 children and shopping. Key goes into the lock, turns a 1/4 like it normally does but doesn't engage with the bolt so door won't open. Any ideas for how to get in without calling a locksmith? Dh an hour away at work but leaving now and I suspect we'll be calling a locksmith anyway.

Oh how frustrating! If you haven't already try pulling on the handle while turning. Then try pushing on the handle while turning.

Jiggle the handle while turning the key to see if you can get it to engage. Do you have any open windows a child would fit through?

Have u anything oily you can put on the key to lubricate the lock?

If its a PVC door it may have dropped in the heat. Sounds mad but throw a load of cold on water the door! My BF is a locksmith and this is a very common thing during heatwaves.

Upvc? Relock it and keep trying... Making sure you jab that handle right up!!

Push the door in, pull it out, lift it up, it's probbaly the plastic moved a bit in the heat - is there direct sun on it? Good tip to throw cole water on it!

Pull the key out a couple millimetres or so and try again.

Oh god I actually forgot I posted! Was so flustered earlier. Ended up calling a locksmith. It's a very old, heavy wooden door. The lock was broken to had to just get a new one fitted. £80 and he's broken the double bolt as he was fiddling with it so probably need to ask him to come back tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help earlier.
