To be upset over no birthday card?

My dad has lived abroad for 6 years, I haven't seen him for 3 years up until recently when he came to stay with me and DD who is 4.

Today is my 30th birthday, he hasn't got me a card.

We were in town yesterday and then went to a big B&M store today. He's had plenty of opportunities. I wasn't expecting a present as I know he's extremely tight for money. But a card is less than £1. I stupidly thought if we went to a big shopping centre he might get a card from him and maybe one from my daughter who was upset she didn't get me a present. She even said to him let's get mummy a cake.

I feel hurt because this is the first birthday I have spent with him for 6 years. He asked what I wanted to do for my birthday yesterday and I said I would just love a family day chilling in the garden and you can cook my favourite meal tomorrow night, he said he isn't ready to cook yet as he's only been in the country for 4 days. He did suggest going for lunch but I would of had to pay. My sister had apparently said to him don't forget it's an important birthday etc as I spoke to her about it.

Am I being unreasonable or am I just overreacting a bit?

Happy birthday OP! Some people aren’t “card” people (and I’d say it’s mainly blokes who don’t get it). But he should be doing something for you. Why couldn’t he cook? Which is exactly what you wanted. Laid it out for him and he still failed.
