Worried sick about this lump

Sorry I've posted on here for traffic. I've got this pea sized lump on my arm. I've never been too concerned, I've had it about a year. I just mentioned it to a friend and she asked me if it moved about. It doesn't and she said usually when they're harmless they move about. She said it can't be a cyst because they always move about. I'm now trying to get an appointment to see GP. Can anyone offer any reassurance. I do have health anxiety.

You've had it a year, you've never been concerned about it, it's not grown and it's not given you any problems- that's a pretty good sign! Get a GP appointment to check it out to reassure yourself but if you've had no reason to worry for a year, don't let your friend get you in a panic about it now.

Mememene · 10/07/2022 20:37

It's always best to see the GP with any lumps or bumps that you are concerned about. I don't know enough about them, I had a lump on my breast that developed after the breast cancer was removed. They did say that as it was not connected to anything and moveable they weren't worried.

They did do scans to be certain and it was fine, just changing shape due to the radiotherapy.

It's most likely nothing - but please get it checked out no one on here could be certain of anything.

Cysts do tend to move about like they are slippery, but a cyst is not the only benign growth you can have - not at all. My husband just went in to GP for an immovable lump on his leg. Pea-sized like you described. It’s a fibrous piece of muscle growth - GP described it all very well and sees them all the time. I’m not saying that’s what it is, but it’s not either cyst or malignant - there’s a big scope in between and it’s most likely nothing sinister. Book your appointment then try to displace your worry until you go in.

TarasHarp55 · 10/07/2022 20:41

I just wish it was moveable because I've now been googling (I know) and the ones that move about are often harmless cysts.

I couldn't feel if mine was moveable. It didnt feel moveable to me, but it did to the specialist and a scan confirmed it.

Mine weren't cysts either, there are so many reasons for them. Deep breathe and GP, get your mind put at rest.

I’ve had a couple of immovable lumps - one on my arm which was just a lipoma (fatty lump), which was pretty big and bloody expensive to have removed, but totally harmless.

The second was a cyst but was trapped against something, so appeared immovable, but was totally benign.

Just go and see the GP, they will either reassure you or send you off for a scan. Either way, the chances are it’ll be nothing to worry about.

Thank you for these reassuring posts. It helps a lot. I realise no one knows for sure but it helps to know others have had similar and been ok.

I understand your concern OP. I have a pea sized lump on my toe. Can't really tell if it moves or not because of it's position. Been meaning to see the GP but we had a bereavement and I haven't been able to make an appointment but will do this week if I can.
Hope you get some answers.

TarasHarp55 · 11/07/2022 00:03

Thank you LuckyCat4 I'm sorry for your loss. Flowers I feel a bit better now. Hopefully we can both get to see doctor soon and have our minds put at rest.

I had something similar, it was nothing. See a doctor to put your mind at ease.

And cysts don't always move about, your friend is wrong.

Flangelica · 11/07/2022 00:53

When I went to hospital go have another lump scanned (on my foot), the doctor scanning was a bit... Amused? He was foreign and said "Why do British people always panic so much when they find lumps? They always assume its cancer, it rarely is! Ohr bodies are full of lumps and bumps!"

I've tried to worry less since (but still get checked, just for peace of mind)

ManateeFair · 11/07/2022 01:02

There are many, many types of benign lump, OP. It might not be a cyst, but that doesn’t mean it’s in any way dangerous. Get it looked at, sure, but the chances of it being anything sinister are tiny. Your friend isn’t helping you by scaring you.

TarasHarp55 · 11/07/2022 14:35

Thank you all so much for your reassuring words.

I had a lump that didn't move and they removed it. Turned out to be a lipoma (just a fatty lump basically). If it hasn't grown in a year and you feel well it's probably nothing but I'd definitely get it checked.

GorgeousGoldies · 27/07/2022 07:42

@TarasHarp55 Did you manage to get an appointment? Hope all ok.

DinosaurDuvet · 27/07/2022 08:19

Omg I could have written this exact post a few months ago - but it turned out it was a cyst / spot. GP popped it in 30secs. Don’t worry OP & good luck 🤞

switchoff1 · 04/08/2022 19:57

Hello OP did you manage to get it looked at? I have a couple in my arms hopefully ringing GP tomorrow as noticed a couple more, I’m convinced they are making me have pins and needles in my hand. Totally health anxious though so could all be in my head

Tor88 · 17/09/2022 09:54

Bumping this @TarasHarp55 am in same boat - wondering if you had any news on your outcome? Hope all ok x

TarasHarp55 · 17/09/2022 10:09

It seems to have gone down a bit so not too worried. Tried to see GP but nigh on impossible. I'm not anxious anymore though, I think it's probably a little cyst or something. I hope you manage to get yours checked out, just to put your mind at rest. Don't worry it'll more than likely be nothing. x

I honestly think a fatty lump is what it will be

But of course check it out

switchoff1 · 17/09/2022 14:42

I went to the GP and waiting on a referral for an ultrasound. They didn’t seem overly concerned as appointment still hadn’t come through and said to contact them in October if I haven’t had anything through. She suggested cysts or lipomas. Asked if I had family history of them and also if a history of diabetes. I have about 5 - not very big but it’s the number that is my issue. 2 in one arm and 3 in the other

Then please change your GP. I called mine last Tuesday at 9.15, seen at 11.15 in hospital for 12 noon suspected blood clots on my lung. I know of other GPs where it can be a week or longer for an appointment, and 111 said it was Covid. Chocolate fireguards spring to mind. I'd been tested in the previous 3 days for Covid and was negative, I knew it wasn't Covid but retested anyway, still negative.

It could have been life threatening, my GP even walked me to the car (son driving not me) in case I collapsed on the way to the car. I realise my GPs are amazing but not being even to get an appointment makes me mad for others.

Hi did you ever go to an GP and find out what your lump was or did it go away? I’ve recently discovered a small hard immovable lump (pea sized or less) on the underside of my forearm and have no idea how to get a docs appointment anymore so just been sat here googling and scaring myself! TIA
