Secondary schools should allow DC to wear PE kit in this heat?

Youngest’s secondary is the most sane school out of the 3 my DC have attended. They allow DC to come to school and stay in PE kit on PE days (joggers in winter, shorts in summer) so no changing issues, losing kit and obviously DC much more comfy in trainers on those days.

On the one of the hottest days we’ve had so far this summer, they’ve also said DC can wear PE kit too so shorts and T-shirt with trainers.

Next week is going to be the hottest yet but they are now saying PE kit only on PE days and school uniform on the other days but no blazer or tie necessary. Still long trousers and uncomfortable shirts though.

WIBU to challenge this as if they did it on one day last month why not for next week when it’s going be 30 degrees all week?

That's what my dcs's school does. Seems sensible to me.

Meredusoleil · 10/07/2022 20:14

My dd1's school did this last year, but haven't so far this year 😐

My Ds is starting at secondary in September. Quite a disproportionate part of the parent’s evening recently was about uniform. All has to be branded with school logo. They are checked daily for any breaches. They seem frankly obsessed.
I believe children will surely learn best when they feel comfortable and whilst I’m happy for uniforms to be worn, I do not see what value it brings to their learning to have this unconditional madness. We are not in the UK set up for any kind of extreme weather, hot sunny days, snow or cold.
Getting kids to look like they are ‘smart’ is one thing, long trousers, tie and blazer in classrooms with no air conditioning seems ludicrous.

Surely he could wear shorts instead of trousers with an open short sleeved shirt?

It hasn't been that hot.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/05/2023 18:21

Well the highest temp for me over the next 10 days is 17 degrees.

They don’t need PE kit for that!

I was wondering where in the UK it was boiling hot until I realised this was a Zombie thread 😂
