Do I tell him to stop before I go insane?

Hi wise mumsnetters

Advice please the house across the road is being worked on and for the last 2 days the guy has being kangooing the walls and the noise is deafening...no warning at all. I can't enjoy my garden in the 26 degrees heat and my little one won't settle for her nap with the noise would I be unreasonable to tell him to stop?

Sadly I don’t think you can, unless it’s at anti-social times.

Aquamarine1029 · 10/07/2022 12:55

Yes, it would be unreasonable to ask him to stop. He has a job to do.

RockinHorseShit · 10/07/2022 12:58

Depends on when it's happening. If it's today, then it's very likely he is going against yourself LAs noise regulations, yesterday morning or too early or later than normal working hours on weekdays would be the same

DeanStockwelll · 10/07/2022 13:00

As annoying as it may be , no you cant expect him to stop unless he is doing it very early in the morning or late at night .
He has a job to do so he will have to do the work at some point , if he does it during the week others will complain that they are wfh and he is disturbing their calls .

Can you make a adventure out of it and take a picnic to the park ?

NewIdeasToday · 10/07/2022 13:01

Can you go to a local park to enjoy the sun without the noise?

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 10/07/2022 13:03

YABU expecting him to stop, but I do feel for you anyway. This kind of noise would piss me off on a relaxing, sunny Sunday afternoon. As has been suggested, maybe go to the park or something?

What is kangooing

Ciela · 10/07/2022 13:15

To remove the old render off a building they use something called a Kango Hammer. A Kango Hammer is effectively a smaller version of a Jack Hammer that they use on roads.

2ndtimemum2 · 10/07/2022 13:16

Hes using a jack hammer non stop. Should mention that in ireland where I am building work needs a permit on a sunday. Think I'm just annoyed because all the neighbours are very considerate of each other and if they had told us they planned to do this today I would've made plans to be out today. Just don't want to start off on the wrong foot with new neighbours so just going to grin and bear it

No idea, but I misread it as kangarooing the walls 😂

Northernsoullover · 10/07/2022 13:23

Shit advice as usual. They shouldn't be carrying out noisy DIY. You can do 8 til 6 in the week. 8 til 1 on a Saturday. Nothing on a Sunday. Don't get involved contact environmental health tomorrow. If you say something and then they don't stop and they get a letter from the council (regardless of who complained) you'll be in the firing line.

Northernsoullover · 10/07/2022 13:25

Not all the advice is shit 😂 I meant he can't just do what he wants.

A Kango hammer drill. They are big industrial type of things.
