To think I'm going to look a right pollock?

DH in his arrant wisdom has done the deal on trading in his sensible family vehicle for a 2 seater sports car.

It's time for him "to enjoy driving again" as 3/4 of our children have left home and own their own cars: no need for a second family car in his opinion.

He seems to have forgotten that I'm a lumpy sturdy menopausal maxi dress wearing unbendy wife. 😬

I'm going to be hefting myself inelegantly out aren't I?

I'll probably need to start yoga, but it's a bit of a stretch to think that'll improve things quickly.

Yabu - style it out it's been a long time coming?

Yanbu he should've considered all the users of the car and their dignity on egress?

His decision is a little fishy. He's living the bream and you're casting around for reasons not to get in his car.

TheCrowening · 09/07/2022 10:45

I’m sure you won’t look like a fish 😂

I take it you have another car, if this was the replacement for the “second family car”? If you can afford it I don’t see the issue. I’m fat and middle aged and I’m definitely getting a sportier car when I next trade in.

Open a taxi account with his credit card?

poetryandwine · 09/07/2022 10:45

Yoga, indeed. YANBU. Does he have form for this?

WayDownIGo · 09/07/2022 10:46

Cod you be any more correct, Showy?

I'm sure you'll be able to perch.

After a bit of practice, it'll be rEELly easy.

RandomMess · 09/07/2022 10:48

🤣

Making rash decisions without consultation?

Little bit, yes.

None that have seen me need to be gymnastical in everyday manoeuvring though.

All fishy fun aside, I'd be a bit peed off about a unilateral decision which affected me and I have little truck for men with grown children who suddenly get penis cars and make sport of putting the top down and veering round sensible family cars for shits and giggles. Not that I assume he will do this tbh but it is a strange phenomenon and one which is currently pissing off one of my nearest and dearest whose dh made a similar executive decision. She likes to read in the car or listen to a podcast and Tom Cruise is in the driving seat, top down, force 9 gale whipping through his thinning hair and a rictus grin to prove he's still got it. Whatever it is.

I also think spending cash on cars is peculiar, particularly from an environmental pov.

But if he's happy and doesn't drone on about torque and mpg in a way which presupposes you care, then good luck to him and his new toy.

Gosh I think I might be grumpier today than I realised.

Ask?

Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

toomuchlaundry · 09/07/2022 10:59

One advantage of having a very tall husband is that he can’t fit in most sports cars!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/07/2022 10:59

His shellfishness is off the scale. What a catch. 😉
(I’m here everyday, Barramundi……)

RandomMess · 09/07/2022 11:02

@toomuchlaundry alas you are wrong!

Merc SLK
Renault Wind

HTH Wink

mrcow · 09/07/2022 11:09

I’d be crabby about it too.

LivingLifeOnTheVeg · 09/07/2022 11:12

It's time for him "to enjoy driving again"

What a clownfish

Why would he enjoy driving more in a sports car?

Heroicallyl0st · 09/07/2022 11:17

YABU. Is it a convertible? Put your sunnies and headscarf on and enjoy! Get him to buy you cocktails and drive to sunset spots and live a little! 😄

Yolojo · 09/07/2022 11:17

He needs to be schooled for this decision, eel learn his lesson.

DotDotaDash · 09/07/2022 11:19

Style it out yes absolutely…. As long as it’s comfortable to sit in! If not he needs to rethink sharpish 🤔

iklboo · 09/07/2022 11:26

Is it a Mercedes Midlife Crisis he's bought? Or an Audi Try Too Hard? 😄

LondonQueen · 09/07/2022 11:29

Go and test drive them first, some really aren't as bad as you think. Make sure you're on the insurance as you'll enjoy driving it more than him🤪
When are my kids moving out?

Wormwoodgal · 09/07/2022 11:30

I assume it has a spare set of keys?
So now it's your new car - and he can use the sensible family runabout! You can let him use the new car when it needs filling up...

Brilliant 😁

EnterACloud · 09/07/2022 11:31

Has he bought one of those wanksmobiles which is so low to the ground you feel at one with the yellow lines?

if so, tell him it’s unsuitable! They’re fucking ridiculous, uncomfortable and scary to be in. And I thought that at 22 (and bendy).
