She's going to her friends tomorrow night for a sleepover.

At 9.15 tonight she said she wanted a Tshirt to wear at sleepover based on a popular TV series right now (I did say I would make it but didn't know it was for sleepover)

I have a vinyl machine so just spent 3 hours designing and making the Tshirt (yes it's a long time, I'm pretty shit at it and my POS laptop crashed mid design about 3 times so I was already pissy)

She comes down, looks at Tshirt, doesn't say a word and asks me to get a spider out of the bathroom.

Proceeds to have a full conversation and takes Tshirt upstairs without a mutter of thanks.

I'm actually really fucking pissed off.

I won't be doing it again.

I don't mind making them stuff but it's just so rude. And I know if I mention it she will insist she thanked me (teenage gaslighting anyone?!)

AIBU to tell her in the morning that I won't be making her anything else and her manners are atrocious.

Print her a t shirt with
"Say feckin Thank You" on it.

This made me laugh. I might do 😂

Mine aren't teenagers yet so I don't know but I think I might take it back.

TwinkleInMyEye123 · 09/07/2022 00:43

Just for a split second there I thought you were saying you had 13+ children.

YANBU

Meraas · 09/07/2022 00:44

YANBU. That’s so rude. Tell her exactly why she won’t be getting anything else made for her.

Hmm. It's probably an appropriate thing to do, I'd just feel bad about it.

I'm probably way to soft with her as she's had a rough few years but doesn't excuse her lack of manners.

I might nick it for myself 😂

She's a teen! At that age, you're so self centred that you really can't see outside of yourself.

I wouldn't take it back and cause an argument. Instead where you have the opportunity, I would speak to her about how disappointed you were, that you want to make her happy and made it happen, without even a thank you. That works for me - keeps cool heads.

In a couple of years she will complete change!

JaffacakeJanine · 09/07/2022 00:54

The t-shirt looks amazing, I want it! Definitely have a word with her about how disappointed you are in her and the effort you put in

Stopthebusplease · 09/07/2022 01:03

Don't ask me, I hate teenagers at the moment!! Bunch of 💩the lot of them! lol

Why wait until morning - she'll have forgotten about it by then!
Tell her to get the spider out of the bathroom herself.
"Did I hear thank you?" might trigger the response you require.

Nah, don't make one for her. Make one for you!

Mediumred · 09/07/2022 01:22

Oh wow, my teen bought one almost the same and you made it for your teen for free within hours! You rock and the least she could do is say thanks! They are selfish little sods and do need a prod now and then, look up on t’internet how much they are and ask her for the cash! (And then let her off if she is appropriately grateful)

bringon2020 · 09/07/2022 01:24

When you're on a good mood/ calmer, talk to her and say what you've written here.

That's what I do with my DC and it usually works (when I'm not calm or on a good mood, I may be rude back, or yell at them. Maybe.)

WendellGeez · 09/07/2022 01:27

If it's any consolation, she will feel broken about this episode (and others like it) many years down the line.
She will try to apologize to you but you will magnanimously say you can't remember.
When you are gone she will treasure the remaining scraps of this t-shirt like they were gold.

BanditBluey · 09/07/2022 01:29

I was just about to say I bet it's stranger things. That looks ace! I would her you're disappointed she didn't show any appreciation as you spent 3+ hours on it for her

ClarksonsGirlfriend · 09/07/2022 01:48

Brilliant T shirt

Penfelyn · 09/07/2022 02:00

Tbh you should have said something then.

You can still say something tomorrow morning though.

"So do you like the shirt ? You know there are places where it's actually customary to thank people when they spend a lot of time doing something nice for you."

MoonShadowMoonShadow · 09/07/2022 09:36

She's come and said to me she doesn't like it because there are white gaps in the monsters face. It's because my laptop crashed inbeween doing the 2 colours so one was printed bigger than the other.

It's not perfect but they're supposed to be Tshirts made/designed by the teens themselves so I didn't think it would matter. I told her I would have it to sleep in then.

Lesson learned.

Next time she can spend a week doing jobs to buy a perfect one.
