I work on a psych ward with covid everywhere. I can handle that.. But Sunday I was constantly having to breathe in their lurgies because I was constantly the one being sent into their rooms and I was assaulted Twice!
Anyway woke not feeling too good today (covid test negative) but feeling odd so called in sick, they said to me to let them know if I will be in tommorow by 5 today. Just called and said book an agency to come in and then if I feel ok they can cancel the agency and have me instead.
They said no because it’s apparently unfair to the agency staff. This is the only ward that does this! Firstly it’s hospital policy that always given a choice they have to give shifts to permanent staff even at last notice because agency a- get paid more, b- insecure hours is what they signed up for and c- they still get paid 4 hours if cancelled last min and always can find a shift on another ward, and d- it’s my contracted hours so they have to pay me anyway.
Now they’ve made me feel like a right cheeky fecker. This is the only ward that don’t follow the right procedure in cancelling agency staff. But I’m also new to this particular ward and want to fit in with my colleagues and managers. I feel a bit pissed off tbh that a- they don’t pay for covid sickness even though we are told we are not allowed to work with covid. This makes no sense because sick is sick right? B- they want me to somehow predict how I will feel tommorow even though I could theoretically test positve in the morning.
should I discuss with HR about it or will that just piss my colleagues off?
