This person - shall we call her Miranda? She's from a rich family and I knew her at school. I work in Ceramics and she's moving in posh dynamic circles, with a large house, no kids, single - etc. We're struggling artists, but we make do.

She rang me up and said, "I need a cleaner" in a brisk tone.
I said, "I can't help you. We do our own cleaning, so I don't know of anyone who employs a cleaner... and... nope sorry"
She got irritated and said "I want YOU to be my cleaner. Tenner an hour"
I thought, "huh?????" I explained that I didn't have time, but thanks alot, etc.
Put the phone down.
And thought - did that just happen???

Going rate is £15 so she’s tight as well as rude.

HollowTalk · 06/07/2022 21:15

Cheeky thing! I imagine whoever cleans for her is going to have a hard time of it anyway.

CandyLeBonBon · 06/07/2022 21:16

How strange

ivykaty44 · 06/07/2022 21:18

Ring her back

Sometimes when people hate their life, they look at creatives as people it is ok to despise. Most creatives hold down other jobs, as well as selling their work - so - maybe she thought I'd be ok with it? ? For example, I used to work selling/retail The Body Shop as well as working on my own creative work. But that is a less personal job than cleaning.

She’s a cheeky fucker and tight with it.
£17.00 an hour here, the person who charges this is so in demand she has a reserve list of would be clients wanting her to clean for them, She’s taken on two employees!

ChrisReasBathEggs · 06/07/2022 21:44

Thinking of jobs you could ring her up and demand she do for you at a shit wage.

Children's entertainer? You need a clown sharpish.....

I need an arse wiper...... bin cleaner......someone to muck out horses on your vast estate....

Apparently there are lots of jobs going in the Tory party at the moment.....

pinkstripeycat · 06/07/2022 22:11

Well, to me, creative people are posh. You own craft shops with a little coffee section. You sell beautiful things. Things that people don’t need but really want. Things that make people happy. You sit on cliff tops and watch the sea, you walk through sand dunes and listen to the seagulls. This is how you get your ideas.
You know all the locals in your little seaside town and all look out for each other when the summer season is over. This is when you make most of your ceramics.
Am I reading too many books? 🥰

You read the right kind of books! I do a lot of this, just not with ceramics!

You’ve def not read Clarice Cliff’s biography. There wasn’t much of that - she started in the Potteries.

Workinghardeveryday · 06/07/2022 22:47

WHAT a cheeky bitch.

I would be fuming.

text her tomorrow and say you need a gardener, and you want her to do it.

I didn’t think people like her actually existed in real life.

Longdistance · 06/07/2022 22:48

Get on with it you ungrateful peasant!

What a bitch! Tell her to fuck off!

OurChristmasMiracle · 06/07/2022 22:55

I would have laughed at her and said and I want to win the euro millions and there’s a million times more chances of that happening than me cleaning for you.

k80pie · 07/07/2022 00:14

Just curious, how did she get your number? Like, how well does she know you? It is incredibly random to ask a friend to clean for you…

Hapoydayz · 07/07/2022 00:19

How rude and odd! Also where does she think she’ll get a cleaner at that price?! Mine is £20 per hour but worth every penny
