Only discovered the other day that you can see Who has viewed your message and when?

Now i find I am doing it and looking?
Does anyone else do this?

Only if it is something really time sensitive, not as a matter of routine

ShaunaTheSheep · 06/07/2022 14:25

Rarely. Messages aren't necessarily unread though - mine show up on my lock screen so I can read them without opening the app.

Comefromaway · 06/07/2022 14:26

Only when dd was in a dangerous situation with a housemate and I was trying to check she was OK.

Skinnermarink · 06/07/2022 14:28

Did you post about this yesterday? It’s getting a bit obsessive

HappyGoDucky · 06/07/2022 14:31

I've been know to have a WhatsApp page/chat open but not necessarily read the message even though it would show sender the blue ticks. So no real proof it's been read.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 06/07/2022 14:36

I don't need to actively look, I can see the tick status on my message list. Does your phone not display them like that?

Sillystripytail · 06/07/2022 14:38

Do you mean in a group chat? I do sometimes, yeah.

redskyatnight · 06/07/2022 14:44

Not unless there was a need for them to be read in a certain time frame e.g I'd ring the person to provide the same information if they hadn't checked their WhatsApp.

I'm comparatively old though ... I think there is much more agonising amongst younger people if they send a message and they see it is read but the person has not responded.

phishy · 06/07/2022 14:46

I might check for 2 blue ticks but that's it. It takes me an average of 3 weeks to reply to whatsapps and texts so I'm probably not best placed to comment.

ResentfulLemon · 06/07/2022 14:47

Sometimes. It's handy to know if what's been sent has been received (two grey ticks) or read. If they chose not to respond I don't particularly care.

Yodaisawally · 06/07/2022 14:55

I've turned it off. I'll respond in my own time and don't need anyone to be anxious over whether or not I've read their messages.

greenacrylicpaint · 06/07/2022 14:55

no. because you can set it so it doesn't show you have read it.

greenacrylicpaint · 06/07/2022 14:56

and therefore I assume fhat most people have set it to that as well.

Unless everyone I know is an exception to your rule I dont think that's a valid assumption

Looking down my list every single message I've sent except to some large groups has a blue tick.

I'd be surprised if having it turned off is th most common option.

CuriousCatfish · 06/07/2022 15:00

A few people on my Whatsapp have it set to not show if it's been read. I can also read messages on my lockscreen, so I might have read the message without opening Whatsapp. So you wouldn't know if I had read it or not.

Same

I can also read messages on my lockscreen, so I might have read the message without opening Whatsapp

Does that actually show them as read though? I thought not, but I may be wrong.

CuriousCatfish · 06/07/2022 15:46

No, if you read the message on your lock screen without opening Whatsapp the messages don't show as read.

Yes I like to see whose read it in a group chat.

OP posts:
butterflied · 06/07/2022 17:23

Rarely and never in group chats.

EBearhug · 06/07/2022 18:01

Occasionally. I was going to remove a message I sent late the other night, but I could see he'd already read it so there was no point. Still, he's still speaking to me.
