AIBU to ask for a discount?

Ordered something large online yesterday for 582, it was sent today at 9 am. Today it's on a 30% discount for sale at 409 😩
There's no way I can ask them to give me the discounted price is there? It's just one of those things. It's a large item so organising to return it will probably be awkward.

AIBU to think I have a chance of a refund for the difference?

No. You can't get the discount.

Since you ordered online, you can return without reason but you need to pay return postage.

If the cost of postage plus the cost of the item in sale is less than the full price then you could order one at the discounted price and return the full price one but that's just a lot of hassle.

No. You won't be able to.

I’ve done it.

I have contacted the company to ask for a refund of the difference, and in some cases they have done so. In fact Monsoon used to have a policy of refunding the difference on a sale item within 2 weeks if you had your receipt, so I always kept my Monsoon receipts in my handbag just in case.

In others, I have had to return the item and risk them selling out in the sale.

I don’t think they will give you a discount but shy bairns get nowt.. ask and see what they say.

MojoJojo71 · 05/07/2022 16:00

It’s definitely worth a try, they can only say no. If not and the cost of postage isn’t too high, I’d return the full price one and buy it again on sale.

Aspinalls did this for me with some cufflinks I bought. I emailed them asking if they would refund me the difference as a goodwill gesture. It was £25 or so!

TyneTeas · 05/07/2022 16:06

I've done it with Currys. They sent us a gift card for the difference, rather than have us return it for a refund and reorder.

Worth aaking

Ask. If they say no, return it and buy it in the sale.

DockOTheBay · 05/07/2022 16:21

I've done it before and they have given me the discount, it can't hurt to ask.

If not, you can order a new one and return the full priced one. Organing a return may be awkward but probably worth it for £150 in my opinion.

OMGOMGOMGHELP · 05/07/2022 16:27

Argh! It's not longer on sale, but they have reduced the fixed price to 539 so they will refund me the difference. Something at least! Thank you for encouraging me to call.
