Have suspected for a while my 3 year old DS may have autism. Doesn't use a lot of words, says them once then never again, has his own language only I understand, Doesn't like change, repetitive actions and noises and couple other signs. Nursery were first to mention it a few months ago. I obviously knew of the speech delay but didn't realise there were other traits. Went to speech therapist last week and, although she cannot diagnose, confirmed the signs he's showing and referred to a pediatric. Need to wait a few months for an appointment. I've struggled to find any where that can offer support or advice. The autistic society seems more geared towards adults who are diagnosed and the info on their website only mentions diagnostic types for children.
Now I've been reading online things such as the coke bottle effect. For me, that sounds so distressing and I want to try and prevent any upset for DS as much as I can. I can't bear the thought of him being unhappy.
I've posted on this forum for traffic mainly. I've been told to continue with the way things are as he is showing some progress but there may be more I can do? What I've found so far seems to be for those already diagnosed but I know for sure that will be the outcome here.
