How many young male primary school teachers do you know? By young I mean early to mid 20's.

One and he’s an absolute prick who shouldn’t be in charge of running a bath never mind a glass room. No doubt he’ll make headmaster before we can say Jack Robinson

One, he mainly does PE (perhaps stereotypically) the children absolutely love him!

What do you class as young? Under 30? Definitely more in secondary schools than primary.

switswoo81 · 04/07/2022 22:38

A good few. We have had a lot of young male subs over the year and the three teachers on our supply panel are straight out of B.Ed's . (Not in UK) would be a very popular job her especially for men involved with certain sports.

Sorry didn't read op properly! At least 10 but my older DC are in KS3.

justfiveminutes · 04/07/2022 22:39

Seven.

I dated one who I had to break up with as he was violent.
I knew another who was lovely an a fab teacher, ended up having a lot of time of for stress.
Another one who was nasty to one particular child and not the rest of the class.
Another who was fine but his wife, also a teacher, did a lot of his work for him...

Well, there is one in my childrens school. And judging by the number of schools my other half has researched for jobs - at least one in most primary schools. Less likely to be the older male. My other half is mid 30's. Qualified in his early 30's.

whatkatydid2013 · 04/07/2022 22:42

There are 3 male teachers at my daughters school (which has 8 classes across reception to Y4). One is is his early 20s and other 2 early 30’s. They are all really great and kids have done very well in their classes.

bushtailadventures · 04/07/2022 22:42

I know one, he's a lovely teacher, made lockdown learning as fun as he could. The kids all seem to love him, and he communicates well with parents too.

SnowdropsInSpring · 04/07/2022 22:42

The question should be 'how many older male primary teachers do you know?' IMO. I know plenty of young ones, but they seem to disappear as they age (promoted quickly/ leave the profession).

Causewithoutarebel · 04/07/2022 22:44

There’s one young male student teacher currently in my DC’s primary. The other three male teachers have all left within the last 18 months, which is really disappointing (though I don’t blame them, teaching is hard work!).

DeePlume · 04/07/2022 22:44

My son in year 5 has a young male teacher and there there 3 others at his school.

BlackbirdsSinging · 04/07/2022 22:44

Are you thinking of training as a teacher OP? You could post on the Staffroom board.

BeaLola · 04/07/2022 22:44

Not early 20s but late 20s - when my son was in Primary school out of 7 teachers 3 were make in late 20s - of the three one was ok , one pretty good and the other fab teacher

stitchinguru · 04/07/2022 23:00

Strange question with no context?

PollenHigh · 04/07/2022 23:02

One, lovely teacher who had to pretty much retire in his 30s due to ill health.
